Parking, Parking, Parking

Parking is an electrifying buzz word in Venice.  It is almost a synonym for OMG (Oh My Gosh), but if it isn’t a synonym, it conjures emotions that one doesn’t normally have on a good day.  Venetians even have code words for parking, such as OPD, OVR, and then there are words one can spell, such as “beach parking,”  “Rose Avenue,” “restaurant” parking.  Venetians find that each of these has different memories and emotions.

These titillating codes have been the subject of many, many meetings, ad nauseam.

Overnight Parking District (OPD) has been around more years than the Update.  Talk about meetings!  These meetings started before there was a Councilman named Rosendahl and before attorney Gita O’neill had triplets or even thought of having triplets. Now the three are in school.  OMG! (Gita attended these meetings representing the city.)

Finally, perhaps, one of these buzz words may find a happy ending.  OPD is now down to a June “get together” with the California Coastal Commission (CCC).  This chat with the CCC will determine if Venice residents can have the right to park on their streets from 2 to 5 am, excluding nonresidents, such as car sellers, airport drop-offs, restaurant and bar parkers, motor homes, and people sleeping in cars during those hours.

Many have been waiting for this upcoming meeting in June.

At the June 2008 meeting, the CCC decided against Venice. It is only because Mark Ryavec, president of Venice Stakeholders Association (VSA), and John Henning, attorney for VSA, sued CCC.

So why is the Venice Neighborhood Council going to have a forum on this subject in April?
