Venice News Updates

News of Venice, CA and Marina del Rey CA

Comments–3 May 2013

Odysseys B of Westchester area …I suppose I shouldn’t be too shocked to hear that the county and city weren’t in synch with the sledgehammer guy, but that’s really concerning to me.
Thanks for including that and the update on Leon. That’s good news.

Amy A of Abbot Kinney area …Loved the bit about the “weirdoes” from Santa Clara!

Steve F of Howard …The guy Kari described sounds like a chap who has been hanging out on the first couple of benches south of the flood control basin beside the parking lot much of the time the last month or so.

Heather K of Thatcher …Thanks Nancy for expressing the effect the loving pic of my dog and the kittens had on you. Made me happy that you experienced joy from it. I am lucky to have many laughable and joyful moments with these personality filled baby kittens and their interaction with my Zoe. Just shows how powerful love is. The love we shower on our dog (American bulldog/pit – also a rescue/ stray) and these little feral orphan kittens create a bond between what would otherwise be the most natural of enemies. Now humans need to try it on each other more often even in the tiniest of ways. Smile at someone random you pass by every day, let someone merge on the freeway in front of you; stop at an intersection so people can turn left. Allow someone to cross the street with patience even if it slows you down. You may gain more than you give and the kindness may change someone’s day or outlook and they may pass it on. Gee. See Nancy? You made me happy by your comments and now I’m all lovingly philosophical and mushy! LOL! Hope the 405 and 101 fwys don’t ruin it for me this morning!

Mark R of Windward Circle area …Reply to Caroline Rios: My neighbors down the street on Rialto just last week had a problem with a person living in a vehicle on Riviera by the new post office who was using the alley directly behind their house as his toilet every morning.  They found it a disgusting clean-up project every day.  It took the police several days to respond and in the meantime they took it upon themselves to confront the fellow and he eventually left.  This is one of the behaviors that OPDs can be used to address, again if a super majority wants to implement the program on their block.
And there is a comment in YoVenice by poster “Not Native” that suggests that OPDs are needed in different parts of Venice for different reasons.  Ms. Rios’ suggestion that just providing some diagonal spaces adjacent to the Windward Traffic Circle would solve Venice’s lack of parking will not address non-resident cars taking up street parking north of Rose, in the Presidents’ Row neighborhood or in the Oxford Triangle.
