Carter ideas and comments
1. Trash bins overflowing at Walgreens Center
2. Finish painting the black on the back of the bicycle store
3. Brennans, painting the back wall and installing planter boxes
4. How to make the gates at Berkeley and Carter? One idea was to attach rolls of bamboo screens with white zip ties. This would be an inexpensive, easy-to- replace, difficult-to-graffiti solution.
5. The trash problems behind the various businesses were discussed at length.
6. Everyone agreed that the car wash was one of the biggest eyesores. One neighbor volunteered to help paint it. Another idea was to install big palm trees every 4 feet and put up a fence since one cannot exit the back of the property now due to the chain.
7. Position of Sherman Gallery dumpsters were discussed
8. Put up “No Loitering Signs”
9. There are two unsightly, 55-gallon, black drums behind the cleaners. What are they? Why are they there? Is there anything toxic in there? Can they be removed?
10. There is a storage box w/ graffiti behind one of the buildings in the Walgreens Center that needs to be removed.
11. If everyone brings in their personal trash cans on Monday, it would help the appearance of the street immensely. If neighbors are out of town they can take turns helping to take out each other’s trash cans.
12. Put up little signs to encourage dog owners to pick up poop even little ones.
13. Signs to slow down traffic
14. How to get street cleaning even if it is just a couple of times a year.
15. How to get the city to trim the palm trees.
16. Councilman Mike Bonin promised to take care of trees and pot holes.
17. One of the neighbors agreed that they need to replace their fence and grass.
18. Becky thought that some of the garden club members could give good advice on what plants would survive best along the back of the green wall of the Walgreens shopping Center. Josh will contribute money to purchase plants.
19. It was suggested that the manager of Walgreens be barraged with phone calls from residents asking them to clean up their center, do regular power washing of the sidewalks, pick up trash, clean up landscaping, etc.
20. Get one more light on Carter near animal wellness center and bike shop. Call 311.
21. The gates need to be cleaned. 22. Speak to the family who owns Penguins as the mother has already been planting behind the building, and see if she is willing to do more or take care of watering plants
23. Radio Shack is apparently going in where the old Sprint store was and there were suggestions to speak to them about cleaning up and planting as well.
24. There was talk about the corner of Carter and Washington getting cleaned up by the new owners, Firestone – Walker – Micro Brewery / Restaurant who just purchased it.
25. The Oxford Triangle Logo that was used for the car window decals was requested for use on mailings to be sent out by residents for other Triangle events.
