Peggy Thusing, senior lead officer for the ocean front area of Venice, picked up the broken bicycle lock photo from Update and sent it to her email tree. It seems the protective stories of this lock are over.
“I thought it would be good to send out to my email trees and Venice 311/Yo Venice,” Peggy wrote. “Bicycle thieves are a dime a dozen. We catch them and more appear. It is a problem all over. Also, this is a property crime and they are the first to get out of jail and bike crooks know it.
“I like the picture because it shows that they can get past any lock.
“Someone once said, at a community meeting, ‘you would not lock your wallet up to a pole’ so why lock your bicycle to a pole.”
“The bottom line is they can get any bike they want. No lock will stop them. I always tell people that if you are going to leave your bike locked up somewhere, then ride a bike you do not care about losing.”
