Bonin Announces Warn, Bag, Tag, and Store

Councilman Mike Bonin wrote a letter to the Venice Neighborhood Council stating that he has “authorized the voluntary storage program” and he is “instructing City crews to conduct regular and comprehensive clean-ups of materials on our streets and sidewalks.”

“Fortunately, the City has crafted a protocol, already in use in downtown Los Angeles, that will allow City employees to better distinguish between abandoned materials and unattended belongings.”

The City will provide a 72-hour posted warning allowing people to know that items unclaimed will be removed by City. After 72 hours, the items will be bagged and tagged and stored for 90 days or until someone requests the objects be returned (at which point someone from the City will deliver and return the items.)

Bonin explained that according to the courts, the City must also provide a voluntary storage program which is what the container storage program is.
