Gregg Jacobus, senior lead officer about robbery in Triangle
The robbery happened at 2130 on the 11th.  It seems that the victim was pushed from behind and two suspects took the victims property.  As for the thefts I do not have any information on those.

Jason Teague, Architect for 1414 Main

Note:  Jason Teague was queried as to whether quote attributed to him in Triangle Update of last issue was correct.

Yes I was accurately quoted in the article.  I did not intend to throw the entire LUPC under the bus, but rather the board members responsible for my project.  I was verbally assaulted on multiple occasions, and one of my team was physically assaulted.  The crowd was not controlled.  The time was managed improperly, and there was little to no communication with us from our … Let’s just leave it there.

Amy Alcon of Abbot Kinney area
Sent the Goodyear media people your piece. With this:
“The Goodyear Blimp made my neighborhood a noisy nightmare two nights in a row. From the Venice Triangle Update”

Elaine Spierer of Abbot Kinney and “ImagineVenice.com”
This “bakery” is another gjelina operation “going for it” with their consultants etc. this operation is the ONLY restaurant bar whatever in the entire area. They are simply moving on into a quiet neighborhood with their drinking late night crowd and hoping to “smoke” the city and the residents. Hoping to avoid/ignore the VNC, all they want is to get those Google $. They have done so much damage to the Electric Ave residents with original Gjelina that this is an absolute heartbreaker if they actually get away with it. First a little bakery and then the truth comes out. This is going to hurt any chance for peaceful nights in this neighborhood. Do your best to further expose this travesty.

Returning from Saint Mark church this evening at 6:50 in our Pontiac Vibe we turned left-south onto Marr Avenue behind a newer Black VW Jetta. Both cars had accelerated from Washington to about 10mph.At Howard Street the VW stopped at the stop sign so we stopped directly behind about a car length back. Certainly I presumed VW was about to turn right-west onto Howard Street. But suddenly He went into reverse mode and his left rear bumper hit us in the front right bumper. He said that he was backing to park at the curb and to attend the Sunny Spot restaurant on Washington. We exchanged license and insurance information and my wife called it to the insurance within the hour. Suddenly it hit me that he might report that I rear ended him. This fear got even stronger as I remembered his lady exiting the car and quickly claiming to Carolyn that this collision was a “mutual accident”. I really fear to see it now, especially from his lower cost Progressive Insurance that prima fascia evidence could suggest that I was in the wrong. When we were young I saw this happen to a friend.

An 8’ security fence should be required around the basin property for Duck Pond.

Michael King, Venice Architect
I am compelled to respond to the recent projects noted in the March 17th Venice Update.

As a licensed California Architect, I am offended by the number of individuals identifying themselves as Architects who are not.

Architects are often unfairly accused as being in the pockets of developers because unscrupulous individuals illegally put themselves out as an Architect.

Simply put these individuals give Architects and Architecture a bad name.

The issue is many of the projects you see before the VNC and LUPC are not being professionally designed.

Most of these projects are sophomoric concepts by spoiled rich kids who un-necessarily infuriate the community for their own aggrandizement.

Most of the projects will change substantially because most of what is proposed is laughably financially and technically un-constructible.

Worse yet, many of these projects are simply shepherded by “entitlement or community specialists” (carpet baggers) who simply skirt the planning codes to pander to the greed of a property owner and increase their own fees.

You will find most projects that are easily approved and sensitive to both the property owners desires and the community’s needs are designed by licensed professionals.

I would encourage all to go the following link at the Department of Consumer Affairs, California Architects Board and type in an individual’s name to check their license.

Private unlicensed individuals have the right present designs to the VNC and LUPC.

However it is just as fair for VNC/LUPC and the community to understand the competence level of what they have to review.

Sunday March 16, turned out to be just one beautiful day for Opening Day in the Marina. But as my husband and I were leaving after enjoying that celebration it took us 40 minutes from Panay Way to Venice to get home. The traffic was backed up both ways on Washington Blvd. and on Venice Blvd. No Police on sight to control the road rage of idiots either trying to find a parking space or getting out of Venice beach. This was about 4:00 pm in the afternoon. And summer isn’t here yet. By the time we got home from a short distance the sirens were leaving the fire dept. every 10 minutes. What I did observe was many people walking to the beach with their families. I was in outraged that I saw many young people smoking pot as they were walking towards the beach. Do I live in California or Colorado???? Many of these are kids with back packs heading toward the beach.

As night approached and that beautiful full moon was coming out, it was close to 7:30 pm and these same kids were standing on the corner of Venice and Abbot Kinney trying to get on the buses. These individuals, men and women, were getting outraged because the bus would not stop for them since they were absolutely full coming from the beach. The city needs to have a better plan of buses to load people at different intersections in Venice. I thought we were going to have another riot as we did last year. Where they were removing bikes off the buses and throwing rocks at the buses. They were smoking pot and drinking and then peeing right behind my property. I want to have signs posted: “Forbidden to peeee at Venice Beach.” I intend to speak up and do something about it. As I put in a call this Monday morning to my SLO.

Are we ever going to really solve our parking situation at the beach and the excess of people going there??? I understand there was trouble at the Drum Circle and that is why people were being evacuated from that area.

I have friends that have expressed how dangerous Venice beach has become. They can’t drive their bikes anymore at a certain hour. The sale of pot has increased and drugs on the alleys. As they have observed. If we as residents and property owners do not show outrage and better control of our community, then we are not showing concern what so ever. We are letting outsiders take over our community.

Jay Berine of Marina
Noticed an LAPD officer writing tickets to car dwellers in Ralph’s parking lot on Lincoln at Marina Pointe Dr. yesterday. Could this be some sort of crackdown?

Actually, I just spoke with someone. She’s been living in her car for quite some time. Apparently, they are ticketing like crazy at the Ralph’s on Admiralty as well. There’s an alleged parking shortage.

1414 Main
Update does not take positions on projects in Venice. (Doesn’t mean that that will always be true.) Therefore, the one who writes the Update, publically only takes positions on projects in personally affected plan areas. Update tries very hard to present both sides so readers can make intelligent decisions. That being said, I would like to make a few comments regarding 1414 Main after the fact.

I like the people who worked for and against 1414 Main Street. I liked them the more I talked with them. Main Street was controversial because large project, because removing old houses, because of 4th floor, and more. Forget that and think about the people who were for and who were against. In most cases, you have to admit, they acted like gentlemen and ladies … they dealt with facts. I talked with Jason Teague and Brian Silveira for the project and Richard Garvey who was against the project. They all know each other, respected each other, and are as Rick Garvey said “At the end of the day, we are all neighbors.” Does this mean Venice has become civilized?

What was very impressive about this project was that Jason Teague, architect, received 700 letters for the project in the last week. That is impressive.

Many people were upset about a fourth floor but Lemonade on Abbot Kinney apparently has a similar situation because of SB1818, I think that is the number that allows a bonus and justifies a fourth floor. Ask yourselves, why wouldn’t an architect, builder take advantage of such?

Just wanted to throw those miscellaneous comments about 1414 Main out there.

Candidate Excluded from Forum
Another comment to be made and it is rather disappointing is that County Board of Supervisor Candidate Douglas Fay was excluded from the Candidates’ Board of Supervisors forum held Thursday at UCLA. So how does Mr. Smith ever get to first base in this Democracy filled with politicians who have either been termed out or been defeated at the polls and are looking for a place to land?
