Council Votes Garbage Franchise

Last issue there was a remark under comments regarding Los Angeles City Council voting for a citywide trash pickup franchise that would affect all businesses and residential apartment houses of 4 units or more in Los Angeles and that means Venice.

Update received some impassioned comments.  Some were  from outside the area as well as one inside the area.  Bill Hooey, head of the Fair Housing Coalition has a statement under comments.  Marilyn Cohon, member of the Westwood, South of Santa Monica, home owners association, sent in a comment.   Yolanda Gonzalez, of Venice, wanted to know why this wasn’t vetted in the Neighborhood Councils.  It was passed by the LA city council April Fool’s Day.  Go to comments for their comments.

The story was in the LA Times but didn’t mention $100,000 franchise fee or any cost of a pay to play.  Bill Hovey is the one who claimed the cost figure.  When questioned, he said check the council office.    Mayor and Council offices have been contacted for fee, comment, status of bill.
