The Artists-in-Residency building built on Abbot Kinney at 1511 will be heard by planning at 10:30 am May 22.
Land Use and Planning Committee of the VNC disapproved the project Wednesday night based on the fact that the project obtained special parking status when built as Artists-in-Residency and now wants to change to retail without adequate parking. They would be required to have 14 spaces and yet have only 4. In addition, the owner planned to pay for the required spaces, which is called in-lieu parking.
It was also explained at the meet that in-lieu parking, which is paying for parking not provided, was only possible for 50 percent or less of required parking.
