Design Control Board meetings for the renovation of the Marina and the Small Craft Harbor meetings seem to be the only places one can voice his opinion regarding the changes proposed for the Marina. (See comments by Bruce Russell and Jon Nahhas under Comments.)
Unlike Venice, which has a neighborhood council, the Marina has no organized group of citizens who can provide mitigation regarding these changes. One hears the name Jon Nahhas, who is from the Boaters Coalition, Bruce Russell who has written a book called “Chinatown County: the Sell-Out of Marina del Rey,” Nancy Marino, of We are Marina del Rey, and Douglas Fay, who is running for County Board of Supervisors. But there just is no group with the clout to question and control the few people who change the Marina before the eyes of the many who live there and those who live in surrounding areas definitely affected by such.
The next Design Control Board meeting will be held at 1:30 pm, 18 June at the Burton W. Chace Park Community Room, 13650 Mindanao Way, Marina del Rey, CA 90292. It is assumed that is the meeting place; notification did not specify place.
The Small Craft Harbor Commission meeting will be held Wednesday (28 May), 6 pm at Burton W. Chace Park Community Room, 13650 Mindanao Way, Marina del Rey, CA 90292.
The agenda will include a Department of Regional Planning presentation on the Marina del Rey Visioning Process. Public comment will be taken following the presentation. The Small Craft Harbor Commission is responsible for making recommendations to the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors concerning issues related to the operation and management of Marina del Rey.
