Whoever is pushing this forward should be ashamed, but apparently, is not remotely so. This reminds me of Dr. Seus’s story, “The Lorax”. People come someplace because of it being beautiful, then consume and destroy what makes it beautiful in the first place. Like anything, development in too much abundance destroys instead of building up a community for the better. Of all the development overkill and traffic nightmares, and lack of parking, over crowding of our 90292/90291 home, above all, this disregard for such a beautiful rarity as the Herons, that should be exalted, rather than destroyed, truly breaks my heart. I am so sad and surprised that activist environmental groups were unable to stop this. Whoever ordered the trim, supported it, and even the guy who cut it, do not deserve the beauty of Marina del Rey, or to reside here in any way shape or form. (In fact, they likely do not reside here, likely just collect gobs of money from people who do). What is next, draining the marina so more developments can take place on the sea floor? Who raises children into people with ethics like these? Donald Trump? It is despicable and disgusting.

Of course, in my neighborhood, because parasitic Gjelina takes all of our parking (providing ZERO spaces for the hundreds of customers they bring in nightly), we’re lucky to find a spot in a dark place where thieves can take our catalytic converters.

Marc Ryavec
Note: Ryavec wrote this email to Renea Berryhill who was bothered with an RV parked on Washington in front of her house. Thought it would be good to repeat the parking rules here.

No vehicle can legally stay in one spot for more than 72 hours. Some, though, just roll a few inches and defeat this restriction. However, if they have been there for over 72 hours, call the LAPD dispatch center and report it – 818 734 2223.

They also have to move for street sweeping once a week.

If someone is living in the vehicle and you have witnessed it, call the dispatch number and report it. If they have been putting trash out onto the street or the parkway, or urinating or defecating nearby, call and report it.

If you have the “No Oversize Vehicles 2-6 AM” call their presence into the dispatch center at about 12 PM. If you don’t have the signs up on your block, email the council office and ask for the petition for your neighbors to sign to get the signs installed.

Letter written to City official regarding County’s proposed oxford basin retention proposal.

For several months I have requested a City of Los Angeles reply on the County’s controversial Oxford Basin project because the potential significant impacts to the adjacent City residents. In the project MND the County states flooding onto Washington Blvd has occurred requiring significant flood storage capacity. In fact, 2 feet above the Washington Blvd. grade.

Debbie Dyner Harris’s reply below states, “No, I have not heard of any flooding of Washington Blvd., but if anyone would it would be Jim Doty.”

Will the City of Los Angeles please give me an official position on the proposed project?

Congratulations, you are the first news organization who published anything about the dramatic meeting and victory for the local residents and boaters, and environmentalists. It reminds me of our similar inspiring victory at the Coastal Commissions 2008 meeting at MdR. In that case, even though many of us were interviewed by the Times, no informative article ever appeared in the Times. i expect our victory will be ignored and mischaracterized and reversed by the same strategies that negated the 2008 meetings. But now we know how that happened. And we expect the same procedures in this case.

So the first thing to examine, is Sherlock Holm’s famous question, Why aren’t the dogs barking? Actually, one is barking, Bruce Russell, a Reuters Reporter and Bureau chief for both Washington DC and Los Angeles. His book, China Town County–the selling out of Marina del Rey , is a lively description of the corruption which is destroying our public marina.

At the beginning of the meeting, I asked if the commissioners had received copies of the book which the public gave to the Department of Beaches and Harbors to give to the SCHC commissioners. None of them were received. We will see if the DCB gets their copies at the beginning of their June meeting. Actually, Bruce will be at Pammy’s in Fisherman’s Village for a book signing this Saturday, tomorrow, starting at 4PM, if you want a copy. Or you can go to the local bookstores and either buy the book or add you comment to the Dogs Barking story, or you can read reviews in the local papers, or you can buy it on line, or read my enthusiastic review at Lulu.com and which, for some reason, only received one star.

Comment: Argonaut was there and I am sure they will have a well-covered, deserving article.
