I was there – sitting at the beach when the lightning struck. I looked to my right and thought I saw 2 streaks a foot from me. The electricity passed over me and my 3 friends. We all felt it. Then we saw a surfer unconscious being pulled from the water.
One friend, who taught swimming, Liz Olson, raced to the scene and began CPR. I was leaping up and down waving my arms at the lifeguard stand. Lifeguards from both directions ran to the scene. A doctor ran to the scene. I was screaming at young people to call 911. I didn’t have my cell. They asked where we were? I answered FLEET STREET, knowing the alphabetical streets in MDR peninsula are easy to find.
Emergency vehicles arrived.
Liz comforted the 15-year-old next to surfer who was unconscious. Teen had been surfing with her father’s best friend.
LIZ is in all the coverage … big woman with BIG HEART and BIG RESPONSE … in pale yellow shirt and sunglasses.
Liz knows his name. Don’t know if I want to release it. I’ll leave that to Liz. Liz was in all the news.
Liz and all of us want to know how the surfer and 15 year old are?
