I am here to defend Officer Abskharon. I do not feel anything like Jen Bilik. I think we all do need to take responsibility for our own actions. We live in a big city that is getting bigger everyday, with people from all over the world moving here.

I come from a small town in Minnesota where people did leave things unlocked. Then I moved to New York City for 8 years and learned to ALWAYS lock my doors and shut my windows. Even then, I was burgled. And, the same occurred when I lived in London. In London, burglars broke in while you were home to ensure that your wallet was there. Burglars used magnetic hooks to go through the apartment door mail slot to reach your keys and then open the door.

People from other big cities are amazed to see doors and windows open in Los Angeles. Unfortunately, Los Angeles is getting bigger, more and more people are moving here and things are changing – more crime. Criminals always go for the easiest access.

My brother (who served in the military and on state patrol) taught me (his wife and all of his children) to lock my door in between trips to the car for groceries. He taught his daughter this and she ignored it in small town Spokane, Washington. She came home in a hurry, raced into her apartment, didn’t lock her door, threw her laptop computer on the coffee table and jumped in the shower. Someone must have been watching her walking with the laptop. He followed her, came in and took the laptop. That someone could have raped her.

I am on “auto-pilot” and automatically shut my door and lock it even when going in and out to water plants. I never leave anything in the car to be seen by a thief. And I am so glad that I do this. I know I’m doing my best to deter and prevent a crime from occurring.

I thank Officer Abskharon for working so hard on behalf of the Venice Community and trying to help the current situation.

Biking to the marina recently, I watched a person exit one of several cars parked along Thatcher at Princeton
who walked through the security gate to the apartment project…..that is supposed to be locked out of the Triangle.
Comment: Gate is coded for ingress which is direct violation of Oxford Triangle Specific Plan.
