I don’t know why anyone would want to close such a valuable transportation corridor. I used it daily when commuting by bicycle from Santa Monica to Lincoln & Maxella. It should have been improved, not closed. That’s the problem with piecemeal development. The most important component – mobility – gets lost.
I wasn’t aware that this gate is on Goldrich & Kest leased property.
We need to find out which public officials are responsible for closing the gate.
Reta reported that, “Matt Wersinger of Del Rey Neighborhood Council proposed that Ralph’s opening be improved for bikers and was working on such.”
There’s a bicycle committee (would have to dig to find the contact info) that should also be working on this.
The Venice LCP and the MDR LCP need to be updated. Improvements to this access point should be in the updates.

My son, who lives on his boat was told that LAPD ( or maybe the Sheriff’s dept???) welded the gate shut because it was an “escape” route for transients, bad guys etc being chased by them. He and many other boaters, as well as pedestrians who hate the Lincoln walk to Ralph’s, use that gate a lot. I’m sorry to see that vandals cut a new opening. However, closing the gate is one more example of how we, as law abiding citizens, are being penalized by the nefarious actions of others.

I do not agree with Steve Freedman. The alley south of Washington Blvd on the way to Walgreens is used as a Freeway. I live next to the alley and I am lucky to not get run over many times.
They alley was not meant to be a freeway or Boulevard so that people do not have to use Washington Blvd or our streets. This is an alley for access to our garages and for the commercial parking and building access.
Comment: Triangle is a great cut-through, artery for cars on Washington wanting to bypass the Lincoln-Washington intersection. The only outlet is the shopping center on Lincoln. We need someone–designer, architect, traffic aficionado to design a system such as the area surrounding Costco has.
