Thank you — once again, you helped me be an engaged citizen (and probably did the same for others) with your note 1656 Abbot Kinney.

I just wanted to let all know that the Block Captains meeting was changed to last Thursday, November 5th, at Pacific Station (12312 Culver Blvd).

Also, please be advised that there has been an increase in burglaries. Please advise everyone to lock and secure the doors and windows when leaving property and even at night.

The Los Angeles DWP lost a class action lawsuit last week. The court determined that DWP must return money to its customers for overcharging them. About two years ago, I was at an event where Council Man Bernard Parks told that audience that the DWP had ten billion dollars in the bank due to overcharging its customers.

Well, some rate payers got together, sued the DWP and won. Now they’re trying to figure out how to return the money and how much to each customer. If you own an apartment building with a single meter for water or electricity, you could end up receiving a nice check. I’m going to follow up with the Rate Payers Advocate and share more News as it comes in. If any of you hear something on this matter, please let me know.

1) Columbus, OH – The Southern District of Ohio today ruled that the City of Portsmouth’s occupational licensing requirements imposed upon landlords – rental property inspections and licensing fees – violates the Fourth Amendment to the United State Constitution.

This means that indiscriminate, warrantless forced-government
inspections of rental properties are unconstitutional nationwide,
and that unlawfully-extracted “rental inspection fees” must be returned
to the rental property owners who paid them.

2) Earthquake retrofits to start in February. Approximately, 13,500 wooden structures will be first. Those with 16 units or more will be first.

Note: Area behind houses on Oxford Avenue, south of Washington on County property next to bike path and Oxford Basin, is sometimes overlooked by patrols. Right now it might not be too accessible because bike path is only access and bike path has been narrowed because of construction.

Kari Peck captured this scene one morning along with photos of fecal matter, toilet paper, and towels. This was all behind her backyard fence.
