Some are amazed with the airplane, some the computer, but the phone with its apps astonishes me. I love it … just love it and love those who have shown such creativity and filled our whims with wonder, if not our needs.

Saw Danon Frear across the street wearing a purple shirt with a contraption in his hand. His truck was double-parked and coned. I asked if he was spraying the drains. He said no, that he was filling a car with gas.

Well, I assumed he meant putting gas in an out-of-gas vehicle. You know, like the automobile club does. Wrong.

He was filling the car with gas like when one goes to a gas station. He said right now there is $10 off a fill up with Purple. Purple is a new company, with an app, that will come and fill your gas tank no matter how many gallons. Danon said the $10 was a loss to the company but company wants public to get use to service.

Rats, just sold my Hummer and now have a hybrid. How is that one for timing!!! One hundred miles and three gallons. Darn, Darn, Darn … Am going to drain that sucker dry and do the fill up.

I was amazed to say the least. Danon and I spent 15 to 30 minutes discussing the service apps that have occurred as a result of the success of Uber.

Purple is the one to contact for a fill up. Danon the man in purple said Purple was dubbed purple he thinks because the uniform color for gas fillers on aircraft carriers is purple. Sounds ok if one “Goes Navy,” which two of my brothers did, but I have to ask and be told.

“Purple started in November 2014 and launched in April 2015,” he said rattling off the facts. “Uber and an oil company are investors. It was started by a doctor and a lawyer. There are now seven drivers in LA, two each in San Diego, Seattle, Orange County. Another company is doing San Francisco. Purple didn’t want to go to San Francisco.”

Danon says that “most of my business is repeat.” One client has seven cars and Danon had to make several trips in his truck to fill the tanks because he can, by law, only carry so many gallons in his vehicle. Can’t beat a plan like that one.
