If you wanted affordable housing in the Coastal Zone you would be fighting to have it put back into the Coastal Act.
The priority projects for the Metro Bus and Thatcher Maintenance Yards should be to become water treatment and recycling facilities for the Venice Marina area.
You should also follow the recent Downtown Santa Monica effort that has young people cleaning the streets and allies on a daily basis.
Ryavac Discusses Cityhood for Venice
Cityhood for Venice would work if it included taking unincorporated Marina Del Rey back from the County.
Unincorporated land is land that is not within an incorporated city. All unincorporated land within a county falls under governance of the residing county. Venice is currently under the governance of the incorporated City of Los Angeles. Unincorporated Marina Del Rey is under the governance of the County of Los Angeles.
The boundary of Venice was much larger than it is today. A former boundary went through the duck pond prior to the marina being developed.
Venice of America got robbed twice at once by corrupt politicians that never intended to fulfill their promises. The greatest recreational area on the West Coast was destroyed so Walt Disney’s dreams could come true, along with the promise that affordable recreation for all would be provided in the soon to be built marina that was outlined in detail in House of Congress Document No. 389. The plan included burying the fragile Santa Monica Bay coastline ecosystem by widening the beach 500 feet for over 5 miles from El Segundo to Ocean Park to accommodate the development of the marina and Hyperion expansion to dump more sewage into the Bay.
Currently, the MDR harbor is a 303d listed impaired water body and Hyperion is dumping approximately 1 billion gallons of sewage a day into the Bay. The LA County Board of Supervisors have absolutely no intentions to make the marina affordable or to return the parkland and bird refuge they’ve taken from us. The only solution is to take it back.

Only Doug Fay’s comment regarding Mark Ryavac’s article on Cityhood. DeDe Audet made comments but sent them to Mark. Am surprised.
Are Venetians becoming apathetic?
