Note: This is in reference to article about Dr. Kenneth Wright proposing using Fort Ord for a homeless “Township,” such as boys town.
I wanted to share with you a hope/plan to suggest that the federal government can donate unused space or land for homeless housing. The McKinney-Vento Act, which authorizes this, has been the law of the land since 1987! So it will take a can-do congressman but it can be done. San Pedro folks would love for their new shelter to be on Terminal Island instead of right next to their homes and schools. Perhaps you can worth with them to achieve it if it sounds like something Venetians would be interested in?
Also I am asking everyone, if they feel comfortable with this, to email the Mayor of Boise to ask them to appeal the recent case. L.A. declined to appeal their case brought by the advocates in 2007, so that is why we are in this state of chaos on our streets. If we let this stand, all of the Western US will become a huge homeless shelter. More advocates, more lawsuits….

Walgreens. They’re back again. Doesn’t our SLO officer keep an eye out for these thing??? I’m so exhausted at the apathy to our community’s safety and well being.

I recommend asking readers of Venice Update to keep the links below if they see people on the streets and want to call for an outreach team. www.lahsa.org (for individuals) and 211 for families.

lady was walking her kids home from school and they passed a man shooting up in broad daylight in the grass in front of rec center on Lake. The staff notified the police since their after program was in effect. This woman has to explain to her children why this man has a needle in his arm.
Break-in in West LA was targeted People took only the children’s passports. Trafficking of children is very big business and growing. That is why DNA is checked at the border.
