Thank you for everything in your wonderful update, but especially, in this one, for the moving story of “Sarge” and Captain Steve.

I wanted to tell you about a pretty scary thing that happened to us while on the way to the boat parade last night.
A group of fifteen neighbors were walking down Thatcher Ave approaching Admiralty on our way to the boat parade. Our group consisted of eight parents and seven children, many babies. There were others on the road too. It was about 6 o’clock at night and the streets were already dark. All of a sudden a car comes barreling down the road at about 60 miles per hour and swerving. The large black BMW first swerved to miss a couple and their dog and then swerved back toward a couple in our group, who jumped into the bushes with their newborn and toddler. Everyone was frantically yelling and jumping off the road until finally the car stopped. Never once before that did the vehicle slow even down – even after it almost ran over the first couple the car seemed to accelerate and swerved to miss the family.
When the car finally stopped, i walked to the window and to my surprise it was Kareem Abdul-Jabbar staring back at me looking dumbfounded. He then proceeded to drive away and presumably go home, never once stopping to apologize, or even the mouth the words, I’m sorry.
I’ve NEVER seen such excessive speed and reckless driving in our neighborhood in the seven years that I’ve lived here.
Our entire group of 15 were almost mowed down by Kareem Abdul Jabbar while going to boat parade. People were crying afterwords. Horrible!
I wanted to pass this on so people could learn from the experience. It was a close call. We all hugged our kids a little harder that night.
Comment: How nice it is to know that there was not a tragedy in Venice that night. Please all take special care this season.
