Storage for Abandoned/Unattended Items—Not Convenience

maintenant yard-600Council office wants it emphasized that the storage program to be initiated at the Abbot Kinney Venice Street Maintenance Yard later this month or early May is not, and repeat “is not,” for the convenience of the homeless to store or check-in their belongings.         

             On the contrary, and council office wants to emphasize such, it is for storage of bundles of abandoned and unattended belongings that are to be removed from the beach, the streets, the alleys as reported in last Update, 13 April 2013.

            The belongings will be held at the facility for 90 days.  If not claimed within the allotted 90 days, the belongings will be destroyed.  Belongings that do not pass the safe, sanitary test by the Bureau of Sanitation and the Los Angeles Police Department prior to pickup will be removed by a street services truck for immediate disposal.

            Notices will be posted and/or people will be “flyered” 48 to 72 hours before pickup of all unattended/abandoned items. 

            People can pickup confiscated items at the maintenance yard within 90 days.  The facility will be open for pickup approximately two hours a day, two days a week.  The times and dates have not been established.
