Steve F of Howard …Re Karen Burstyn’s question-The big, dense apartment and condo complexes that have sprung up on Maxella, Glenco, and Redwood are the result of zoning changes to properties that were previously light industrial during the Galanter era.
Heather K of Thatcher …Why does Jody need to comment so negatively when he moved years ago to Santa Clarita? Good for you Jody. Now let us who are still here and enjoying the beauty and peace and community that does exist here, BE! Go ride a horse and let us be. Please quit slandering our home in order to keep justifying to yourself “why you moved”. You moved away so move ON. Our community is alive and well. Some have lived here for thirty plus years. Some of us grew up as kids together, get each other’s mail, have kids that play together. We borrow milk from each other and sell or buy Girl Scout cookies from our kids in the neighborhood. There is plenty of beauty and goodness and greatness all around Marina/Venice. You must be the kind of person to put that out there in order to receive it or see it. It is easy to see and enjoy and feel like a community when you have a positive outlook and are warm and friendly to people. Those of us who are find the true greatness of community and neighbors. Since you did not however, please join your Santa Clarita community email list and pontificate there. Your comments are more about you perhaps needing to justify your move than they are useful and helpful. Turn on your air conditioner and find somewhere else to place your input. If you can’t find peace within yourself it won’t matter where you live.
Paul R, Development Director, St. Joseph Center …We have completed our early-morning survey of the Lincoln Corridor and we want to update you on what we learned.
Over the two mornings we located a total of 20 different people who had slept in the area the previous night – 13 on Tuesday morning and 7 on Wednesday morning. We appreciate that Mark Ryavec came out on Tuesday morning to help with the first day of the survey.
Of the people we saw, 13 sleeping on Lincoln agreed to be interviewed. It turned out that 10 of the people we spoke with were new to our system and 3 had been in contact with us in the past. We will now work on engaging with all of the people that we spoke with to determine what services they may be eligible for and continue to work at connecting with those we were not able to interview.
We also wanted to let everyone know that we have created a new email address for community members to use to contact us, as Ty suggested. Our website’s Contact Us page now includes the email address community@stjosephctr.org listed under the heading “Community concerns or questions”; this mailbox will be checked at least once every 24 hours during the work week and first thing Monday morning after the weekend.
Diane L of Carter …Todd or Turtle is back and he can be seen on Carter Ave between the veterinary clinic and the restaurant. People are not comfortable with him around here.
Yolanda G of Venice Blvd …Please send out an email alert to your list of citizens and alert them of recent distraction burglaries where the suspects knock on your door pretending to be DWP workers and trick you into going to the back yard while his or their partners enter the home and remove property…if anyone gets an unexpected visit from any utility company especially DWP and they are not wearing their uniform please call 911 and tell the operator that there is someone at the location impersonating a utility worker “DWP” – a police unit will be dispatched.
Comment: The one above has been around for some time but it never hurts to remind people. A new one from the south is putting an address on a child and dropping the child off. A woman or a young lady wants to help so she takes child to that address. Person doing the good deed is raped and/or robbed.

Correction: The number of units of permanent supportive housing for the chronic homeless that have to be built by the City for the Jones settlement to go away is 1,250, not 2,500. We’re told that the number is now about 1,100, plus or minus.
Our attorney has asked the Housing Department for the actual list of built units so we can determine if all the units we know about are on the list.
Ken H of Carter …Just a reminder – lock your car doors when they are parked on the street! We live on Carter and forgot last night – some cash and small things taken. It just means that there is someone who is walking around our neighborhood checking for unlocked doors.
Reta M of Thatcher …Spotcrime.com says there has been a car break-in at Stanford and Berkeley, an incident in 4100 block of Lincoln and one in 800 block of Washington in addition to what happened on Carter, as explained by Halloway. The 3200 block of Carter which is the Jefferson-Marina apartments always has a problem. This has all happened in the last week.
