Digital Billboards Proposed for LAX; Hearing Tuesday (16 July)

By Dennis Hathaway, president of coalition to ban billboard blight (CBBB)

A public hearing is scheduled next Tuesday, July 16, on a new sign district that would allow 371,000 sq. feet of digital and super graphic signage at LAX for commercial products and services.  Is this the face of the city we want to present to visitors–a sea of ads for cars, fast food, alcohol, movies, and electronic devices?  Click here for details on sending comments to city planners.  For more about the sign district, click here.

SB31 is a bill still pending in the California state Assembly that would allow an untold number of new digital and other large, brightly-lit signs advertising such products as beer and fast food along freeways near the proposed Farmers Field in downtown L.A.
