Google’s patio on Main was filled with friends, family, colleagues, political figures– local, state, and federal, campaign helpers, and well-wishers to celebrate Councilman Mike Bonin being sworn in by former Councilman Bill Rosendahl. They started lining up to enter prior to 6 pm.
Councilman Mike Bonin brought the crowd to its feet with laughter when he was repeating the oath of office given by former Councilman Bill Rosendahl and said he would uphold the California Constitution–with the exception of Proposition 8. Both he and former Councilman Rosendahl are openly gay.
In his acceptance speech, Councilman Bonin said he wanted to play a leading role for the City in the field of transportation and would be a councilman for the people, for the neighborhoods. He won office with more than 61 percent of the vote and it was mentioned that this was the largest majority for any new council person. Many in audience said it was definitely a Mike Bonin bash. There was continuous music and entertainment as well as food from all the local restaurants. Entertainment was provided by Govindas & Radha, New Directions Veterans Acappella choir, Mark Twain Middle School Bell Ringers, and Mike Randle to name a few.
Councilman Bonin was given a blue hoodie that said “Leaning into the Future” with patches from each of the communities he will be governing
