It’s called the “Hook and Go.”

It is awful about the permit parking, especially. No hope for that? We need it! How can they allow, say, Gjelina to do business while providing zero spaces for the hundreds and hundreds of customers and employees they draw daily, and not allow us permit parking? Insane!

To the lady who wrote about thy neighbor. You are not the only one with a sad story of A Neighbor of bad behavior. We too have a problem of alley parking blocking our right of way. Residents as well as property owners don’t give a hoot anymore. They park as they please. Leave their trash cans out blocking the alley. They remain like that all week. And the answers we get. “I didn’t know I wasn’t supposed to do that.”
We are living in an age of entitlements. Visitors come to our community and trash Venice. They block our passage to get to the other side of the road. Leaving beer cans on the sidewalks. Our bus stops are left absolutely dirty in disgust. They need to be powered wash, which I will be doing this week. People don’t respect the ducks resting on the lawns. Families laugh at their children chasing the little ones. Maybe we need to put up signs in English and Spanish. RESPETEN NUESTRA COMMUNIDAD, SE PROHIBE MOLESTAR LOS PATOS. SE PROHIBE TIRAR BASURA.
But how do we solve the problem???? We must remember that we have a group that LOVE A FREE VENICE. They love trash. Not a beautiful Venice. And we have a Neighborhood Council Board that is useless, except for a few committees that are really doing their work. THERE IS NO OUTREACH WHAT SO EVER. It is sad that we have new comers who are buying here in Venice and are realizing otherwise. But I am encouraging that we can do something. We property tax payers are putting up with this. As I attended our New City Council Mike’s Bonin’s ceremony at Google he asked to have civility and respect each other. Let’s put it to practice.

It is important to reinforce the issues around problems with pretending LA is Portland or other metro areas with robust transit, smaller geographical areas, less challenging topography, etc.
Folks should send in a positive comment to this article and use this as an opportunity to educate folks about the issues we face in LA:

Wake Up Abbot Kinney!!!
Just briefly … there are three projects that Land Use and Planning Committee is/was reviewing. They were on agenda last week and whether they will be heard again is not known at this time. Guess one just has to check agenda. They are:
812 Main Street, mixed use project
1635 Abbot Kinney, Wabi Sabi
1035 Abbot Kinney, mixed use hotel
LUPC meets first and third Wednesday of the month at the Oakwood Recreation Center from 6:45 to 9 pm. Agenda is at www.VeniceNC.org/LUPC; project information is at www.cityhood.org. LUPC reviews projects before they go to the West Los Angeles Planning Commission.
I was there only for 812 Main Street former Broadway Gymnastics, formerly World Gym. Building was built in 1987 and had just over 8,000 square feet with 57 parking spaces. Proposal is to double the square footage and add a restaurant with patio and have only the 57 parking spaces. Board did not question the parking. (Can’t imagine patio at that corner but parking is the concern.) Supposedly parking numbers are legal, although one number was by Crane & Associates. I call it magic. More to come.
