Billboards keep generating their own stories.  Fortunately, two people on Update’s mailing list stay on top of this saga.

Lamar Central Outdoor, one of the billboard operators in Los Angeles, has filed suit to attempt to force the City of Los Angeles to allow for the conversion of 44 of Lamar’s traditional billboards to digital/electronic format.

From the list, it looks like only Lincoln Blvd (near Sunset) and 4680 Lincoln Blvd (near Mindaneo) are affected in the area that Update serves.

If you are affected at either location, contact Dennis Hathaway at:info@banbillboardblight.org and indicate your contact info, the sign address (es), and how you would expect to be affected (quality of life, safety, privacy, property value, distraction, neighborhood character change, etc.) should a digital sign go into operation there.

Dennis has provided a list of nine signs that are local, conventional billboards that are out of compliance with their permits and a list of five that have been cited for maintenance violations.

2005 Lincoln Blvd. – Clear Channel – 10 ft. higher than specified by permit

2454 Lincoln Blvd. – Clear Channel – second face added without permit

4070 Lincoln Blvd. – Summit Media – 18 ft. higher than specified by permit

4060 Lincoln Blvd. – Lamar – second face added without permit

1000 Venice Blvd – Clear Channel – second face added without permit
