Venice News Updates

News of Venice, CA and Marina del Rey CA

Comments–29 August 2013

Amie L of Thatcher …Wow the microbrew sounds fabulous! Glad we will have another place other than Yardhouse to enjoy some great beers and burgers! Best part is its walking distance

Chris Co of Oxford …Ironworks at 4100 Lincoln will remain open as well as the 730 Washington. I haven’t looked at the list for those north of Lincoln or in Venice.

Diane L of Carter …As of today Sunday, the Wall/ledge behind Brennan’s on Carter is now clear of all Morning glory/weeds thanks to Hector our gardener.(see photo) He will also power wash it down this coming week. Steve, one of the managers at Brennan’s approved and will pay Hector and is also looking into painters to paint the wall and fence. So now that it is clear it is a “open invitation” for loitering and what have you, so we need to figure out how we can block/cover the ledge so that doesn’t happen.

A Back of Brennans'

Also enclosed is a photo (reminder) about Trash can policy for putting them out and bringing back in. Carter is a lot narrower than the other streets in Triangle so when cans are left out, it makes it harder for cars to pass and it’s just a welcome for trash pickers. Please don’t leave your cans there as your permanent place…it just looks bad.

Unhappy Resident near Abbot Kinney area …Residents will be totally screwed, since we are not being allowed permit parking along with the lots. Gelling, among others, has already scared up our parking by bringing in hundreds of customers a night (while providing ZERO parking).

The brilliant people who work for the city didn’t figure out that people will drive 10 feet to park in “free” residential parking and aren’t giving us permit parking to go with. Or rather, maybe they just don’t care.

Many of us don’t leave our homes unless we can allow for 20 or more minutes to search for parking on the way back. And this isn’t necessarily safe parking but faraway, dark parking for women wearing heels and walking home late at night.

Reta Moser of Update …For all who think art is not in the eye of the beholder and want to impose “your art” on me and everyone else, and for all who think murals will stop graffiti and a few other things, please read Doug McIntyre’s article in daily news. I couldn’t have said it better nor thought of all the consequences that Doug McIntyre did in writing this piece.

Latest is that the city voted to allow all LA to have murals. R-1 property is excluded but can opt in. If a neighborhood wants it, they can “opt in.” Because the council members did not vote unanimously, they will have another vote next week. If opt-in clause is left up to the VNC, President Linda Lucks told the mayor’s representative at the Tuesday meet that “we” (and, please, realize that excludes me in the we) love murals in our neighborhoods. And according to the council office, all one will have to do is get a permit and paint. Neighbors will not be part of decision.

Forget the art, go for the bucks. Read the article and you will see why I personally will go for a couple golden arches on my garage door. Won’t mention McDonald’s because that would be advertising, or I guess, that won’t matter now. Might as well join the idiocracy of LA and make a buck. Talk about turning the clock back on progress.

Voice your opinion to Councilman Mike Bonin at Mike.Bonin@lacity.org. The vote was 13-2 for the ordinance allowing the murals.
