Within one block, one side of the street, from Oxford to Marr, there are three shops selling Marijuana and now there is an additional shop within that block that sells cigars, tobacco and the paraphernalia for smoking marijuana.
Illegal medical marijuana shops have recently been targeted and 754 Washington, one pictured at top, is one that has been singled out. This is in reference to Proposition D.
“When the legal marijuana clinics popped up, we saw an increase in the younger ‘homeless’ people, (who seem to travel in groups) than ever before,” said one Oxford resident. “We did not see as many in this age group this year, and I think it relates to the shift/closure of the dispensers. I also don’t see the same ‘questionable’ traffic in our area of the Triangle since the dispenser around the corner was busted.”
One non-marijuana shop owner on Washington who didn’t want to be named explained that kids wait outside while older people purchase for them.
Bunny Blunt, owner of the smoke shop, said she gets a lot of requests from people to purchase marijuana for them. Bunny has a sign that states they neither sell marijuana nor will accommodate a customer in the purchase. Across the street is a hotel and she assumes she gets requests from out-of-state visitors who do not have a prescription.
Bunny and Tim own and run the smoke shop. They have a store on Abbot Kinney and opened this one after Labor Day. When asked why they chose green, and the marijuana green for their shop, they said “green is a natural color.”
