Correction

In the 21 December issue covering the Land Use and Planning Committee (LUPC) and particularly the Firestone-Walker Brewery, a statement was made that was incorrect.  The statement was that “LUPC told Firestone to go back to the community.”

There was much discussion about Firestone going back to the community but it was definitely not a requirement established by LUPC.  It was not meant to be a statement that they had to do such, but the way it was written, one could certainly take it as such.

Marisa Solomon originally brought it to Update’s attention.  It was doubled checked with another source and story got worse.  That is why there was not an immediate correction.

Jim Murez who handles the case for LUPC wrote today when queried: “Nothing is in the VNC [Venice Neighborhood Council] policies that would require Firestone to have another meeting with your neighborhood.”

Not the way to end the year with a correction to say the least.  Update would hope for more.  One would hope it was the only error for the year and it had to slip in quickly before the end of the year.  Hopefully, next year Update will have to wait until 31 December 2014 for a correction to a mistake.
