OFW Gets Ready for Beach Crowds
With spring comes the rush to the beach and Beaches and Harbors and Recreation and Parks know all too well, they must prepare.

The report from Recreation and Parks was that all the bathrooms were being fixed and cleaned. They found that four out of 12 would be out of order. One of the main problems the Recreation and Parks spokesman said was the locks. It was explained that there were many people to take care of and fix the bathrooms but only one locksmith. They are looking into the purchase of a different lock.

The lights are being checked and all the fountains are being fixed

Danny Samakow, restaurant owner, suggested that Recreation and Parks provide a bunch of porta pottys and have them for the four months of summer.

Recreation and Parks is looking into purchasing a cement cleaner, scrubber. It supposedly is better for certain things than pressurized water. They are also considering a hands-free bathroom cleaner. Manufacturer is giving a demonstration this week.

The LAPD officer representative said there was more enforcement on OFW to Speedway. Officers were more visible he said with their bikes and their segways. He also said that in about four weeks the presence will increase with the extra beach officers assigned to the beach from April to September.

The package of precautionary systems considered after the death of the tourist in August on OFW—camera system, lighting system, retractable bollards, special signs, and public address system are still being considered by all the departments.

Food Trucks
Since the last meet, it was decided that food trucks would not be given permits unless they had some form of entertainment such as music. Cecilia Castillo, who heads the task force for the council office, said this was being looked into at the moment. Restaurant owners at the beach feel it is unfair for Recreation and Parks to make money off of permitting food trucks which are in direct competition with the restaurants on the beach.
