I saw the same “levitation” act in two cities last summer in Europe.

Hello Neighbors;
To better protect yourself, family, property and neighbors it can be critically helpful to have on hand those numbers for neighbors and others to contact in case of emergency.
LAPD recommends you exchange contact information with many of your neighbors + others.
Add it to your list of safety divisions as it can result in mutual protection.

I join all your readers who welcome anonymous comments in the Update. There are so many contentious issues in Venice, its understandable some members of our community would prefer to express themselves honestly without being judged and possibly ostracized (which does happen!) Please continue to share any thoughtfully expressed opinions, even when the commenter doesn’t wish to be identified (or perhaps they’d be willing to use a creative pseudonym? 😉 If some folks don’t like anonymous posts, they’re welcome to skip them.

Dear Gary Jones :
Recently you assessed a $25 fee for previously free beach parking passes for seniors. No doubt you are trying to raise revenue, but this presents a new hardship for those who rely on this service the most. We are the people who have paid a lifetime of fees, are now trying to allocate scarce retirement resources, and rely on the beach for needed exercise and emotional satisfaction.
What is particularly galling about the new fee is that, in your letter of August 14 to previous senior pass users, you couch it as a “nominal” fee. This may seem nominal for you, Mr. Jones, with a salary reported at $191,000, but it is not nominal for seniors on fixed income and nobody is fooled by calling it so.
Secondly you seem to think that by now allowing seniors to park weekends at less popular lots from six to nine AM that this is a meaningful perk somehow justifying the new fee. This early time is useless and a sop for trying to extract more money from those who must guard their resources.
Santa Monica, with its very popular lots, manages to give full time (including all-day weekend) permits to all seniors. Seniors are not so uninformed as to not realize that the county has more budget issues than Santa Monica, but we also know when we are being disrespected and patronized.
Please eliminate the fee so that we may again think kindly of County Beaches.
Signed: Richard Block, Wolf Seeberg, Howard Chesney, Bill Bollinger, we are all residents of Venice/MDR.

Neighborhood Committee will meet 2 October 7:30 to 9 pm at Extra Space Storage Meeting Room, 658 Venice.
Discussion and Possible action re:
Transient problem on the northwest side of the Penman golf course, outside the fence. From resident: “There is this strange no-man’s land between Frederick Street in Santa Monica going South on a dirt pathway to Rose Ave. There has been a tent camp there for the past several weeks. Additionally, MANY times I have seen drug paraphernalia, as well as spray paint cans and remnants of prostitution.”
