Comment: Update wants to share with all.

Douglas Fay’s comments regarding flooding.
The west end of the Oxford Triangle has flooded during periods of heavy rainfall about half-dozen times since 1977. Affected areas include Oxford Ave from just south of Washington to a bit south of Dickson Ave, up Howard to a point several homes east of Marr, and about a third of the way up Dickson. On one occasion about 20 cars parked on those streets were destroyed by flooding. I have seen folks row by on our flooded streets and have walked thru 2 1/2 feet of flood water in the Oxford Ave alley.

We depend on the Oxford Retention Basin and pumping station to protect us from flooding. Both must operate properly to remove storm water from our streets. Any claims that Oxford Basin in not indispensable for flood control in our neighborhood are seriously flawed. Residents of the areas in question should be aware that we live in a low-lying, flood-prone coastal neighborhood. Hopefully, such info is disclosed in all property listings in the affected areas.

While flood water may not have entered the Fay residence, there is no question that it has been surrounded by flood water on a number of occasions. I don’t know just what Challis said about the Fay residence flooding but accusations of lying seem inappropriate.

320 parking
I drove by Gjusta today and noticed that it appears Mr. Camaj is instructing his valet parking people to park cars in a U so that the cars will hide the people sitting on milk crates and benches eating Gjusta’s food. I took a photo. This is November 14th, the day after Camaj was told at November 13th’s Zoning Administration hearing that he is not permitted to SEAT and FEED people at Gjusta, 320 Sunset. This behavior must be stopped. Perhaps our city leaders need to shut this operation down. Why should any business owner adhere to permits/laws/codes? Mr Camaj is setting a precedent – sure to have a very negative domino effect on residential communities throughout Los Angeles.

Harris Levey, president of Presidents’ Row Association
Great job. Your newsletter is of great benefit to the community.
Comment: Normally nice things about Update are not printed but Levey seldom says anything positive. This for the record.

Challis Macpherson, former chair of Land Use and Planning
Some have asked what I’ve been doing in retirement.

Well, I applied for a building permit for a new house. It was going
to be 100 ft tall and 400 ft wide, with 12 gun turrets at various heights, and
windows all over the place and a loud outside entertainment sound
system. It would have parking for 200 cars, and I was going to paint it bilious green with pink trim.
The City Council told me; “Forget it…AIN’T GONNA HAPPEN!” So, I sent
the application again, but this time I called it a “Mosque.”

Work starts on Monday. And here is the best part, it’s going to be tax
exempt! I love this country. It’s the government that scares me.
