Spierer Proposes New Impact Study

Elaine Spierer of ImagineVenice.org has proposed cumulative environmental impact study for Venice. She wrote a letter to Chair of Land Use and Planning (LUPC) Robin Rudisill proposing such.

“I would like to register my support for a new cumulative environmental impact study for Venice,” she wrote. “The 2004 study is long out of date and conditions have so dramatically changed in Venice that the entire community has been affected by developments not in concert with neighborhood mass and scale nor are many developments reflective of the limits of our existing general community infrastructure.”

Challis Macpherson, former chair of LUPC, commented on the proposal and agreed with Spierer. Macpherson said, “Elaine has a valid point to encourage a new one because last one is inadequate and now out of date.

“Venice needs a new cumulative environmental impact study,” Macpherson wrote. “The 2004 study is woefully out-of-date. Our community has been affected by developments not in concert with mass, scale and character of our neighborhoods. Yes. We have a fantastic Venice Coastal Zone Specific Plan. As a matter of fact, stacks of our specific plan stand on shelves in planning offices to distribute to citizens looking for the best specific plan in the city. That
said, developers still need to be reminded of our specific plan and that
Venice is a residential community with commercial zones, not the other way
around. Pass the word around. Forward this to all. Get the buzz going
for new impact study.”
