I want to thank Robin Murez. I am SO SORRY I forgot (in my listing of where to find your favorite shops – the ones that have left Abbot Kinney) that Robin’s studio moved from Abbot Kinney to Main Street. I love and admire her work and her preservation of Venice history through that work. Her new studio is more accessible and more fun. Run, don’t walk there. Robin Murez Studio at 2935 Main Street.

Also, I owe an apology to Deborah LaShever of the Bohemian Exchange! I was a customer and picked up some great vintage earrings there! Thank you for your six years on Abbot Kinney!

What Ed Rucker experienced with what was supposed to be help enforcing clear laws is unconscionable, disgusting corrupt leadership and politics that even on the local level, has zero interest in their agenda of the tax paying residents and their constituents. Money, power, pathetic leadership. It is appalling. But is it a surprise? No. Venice belongs to developers, vagrants, illegal buildings and enterprises with potential for tax generation ( of which we will never see put to good use) without regard for laws….I say if they are going I assist air BB in their entrepreneurial pursuits, in hopes if unethically ( let alone illegally ) garnering taxes I say our property taxes should go down. I did not buy my home next to a commercial enterprise. Did Bonin? ?
Where does Bonin live? It doesn’t appear he lives amongst his voters, near Walgreens, the boardwalk, Rose ave, or next to an Air BB transient hous-tel ( hotel +house). Where DOES he or the mayor live? In a bubble? Gated Beverly Hills community? Leadership. What DOES that mean anymore?

Susan I. Spivak and Edward A. Rucker, lawyers, were married in Edinburgh on Thursday in the St. Giles marriage room in the India Buildings’ Registrar’s office. Karen Watson, a registrar, officiated.

Ms. Spivak, 55, is keeping her name. She is the vice president for legal affairs at Frank O. Gehry & Associates, the architectural firm in Santa Monica, Calif. She graduated from Brown and received her law degree magna cum laude from the University of Pennsylvania. She is the daughter of the late Helen Spivak and Dr. Jack Spivak, who lived in Jamaica Estates, Queens.

Mr. Rucker, 59, is a criminal defense lawyer in Los Angeles. He received his undergraduate and law degrees from the University of California at Berkeley. He is a son of Betty Eddy Short of Newbury Park, Calif., and the late Allen Rucker.
The bridegroom’s previous marriage ended in divorce.

Thank you for staying on top of this AirBed STR topic! The dept. of public works seems to have a problem enforcing the law. soooo… who profits?

PS. instead of spending $ 15 million on a overflow duck pond on Washington; would $ 1 million not be plenty and the other 14 million would go to create services and build houses for the homeless??

The profits to the subcontracted construction industry would be the same – so who makes these decisions squandering taxpayers money on homes for ducks rather than humans??? We have all heard of the various corrupt practices of Bell Gardens, Vernon etc, is our Dept. of Public works the center of corruption in L.A.?

FOR A LITTLE DIVERSION:
Merlin

Ever wanted to know what kind of bird you have taken a photo of? Well, here is a beta program from Merlin Labs that allows you to identify a bird on a photo you load into the computer program by placing three markers on: bill tip, eye, and tail tip. You will be asked for the location where the photo was taken, if you know, such as city, state, or zip code. Try it.

bed and bike

BYOB. Bring your own BED
Saw the entire procedure of throwing bed over one wall them climbing a tree like a staircase in the yard.

In Maintenance Yard. This person rode down thatcher ave with this mattress looking thing on his-her head on a red white blue road bike. Went to culdesac on other side of thatcher and threw it over. Then came back to thatcher, threw bike over other side of the fence, scale a tree and walked right over. Blonde meds length wavy hair, navy T-shirt with a yellow star on torso.

Keep Neighborhoods First
As Buzzfeed’s recent article points out,a growing number of SoCal communites have “shown AirBnB the door” in recent months.

Santa Monica, Orange County and Laguna Beach have all taken serious measures to rein in STR abuse. West LA will likely follow suit.

Wow!!! Is all I can really say!!! I saw the next door neighbors light switch on and off many times…probably for a minute! So I call 911 since on facebook I heard that it was a sign of distress. Mind you, I am aware of the type of bulb they have in which I can see is a curly new age type. So….after I call, they transfer me three times to where I get no clear answer as to anyone coming out!!! In my perspective, if I were in trouble, I would have died by now! No lie!!! That scares me! After all the hearing impaired beepings and repeated no answers from the police in the westside office u had to eventually hang up. Sat outside only to find a drugged out person walking down my street! Unbelievable!!! 20 minutes….no show by the police…nothing!

This photo of the birds is grand and sad at the same time. When I went to one of the Oxford Basin meetings early on I spoke to the Biologist who was on hand.
When I asked what would become of the nesting situation for birds that live in the basin he responded ‘oh, Herron’s still next there? That’s a good thing’ . I saw him
A few weeks ago behind our house tagging trees – when I asked what he was doing he said there is no official count of the number of trees in the marina – I asked If he was going to include the 600 which were cut down / he winced. Just another person with a title on payroll!

Ed Rucker, a very able attorney, has learned what others with less ability already know.
Government chooses which laws to enforce and which laws to ignore…..
and frequently without even handed fairness.
However one law that should be enforced could help solve parking problems AND even
restrain Short Term Rentals. Simply enforce the zoning code for onsite parking per property.

The Sandy Banks Article was incredible. It more eloquently states what I was trying to wrap words around in my last comments about homeless ( especially youth) getting off the the street. Some one has to say NO this is not an option, and Lauren and Tammy Pardee went heroically further by saying they had an option to give someone to make a better CHOICE. No matter where one is at, one has a choice in making a wise decision or an unwise one. These kids obviously have made plenty of unwise ones. These ladies and the others mentioned in the article give them a wise choice. In the middle law enforcement still needs to play a part and say NO for some of these people who continually perpetuate unsafe lifestyles for themselves and the community around them. Both still need to be at work. But thank you Lauren and Tammy for creating the positive choice for those who are ready to take it.
