Sorry for the length, but I’m on a tear today.

DOOR POUNDING in early hours and LAPD arrived 30 minutes after 911 call – perhaps the caller said ‘there’s someone pounding on my door and yelling’ (which is not exactly a crisis) instead of ‘someone is pounding on my door shouting that he has been stabbed’ (definitely crisis requiring paramedic).

L.A. STREET SERVICES LOT in the Oxford Triangle – it will not be a City owned and maintained park a few feet from Burke Park. If the pecking order of dibs gets all the way down to the property being auctioned (SUPREMELY UNLIKELY), and the area is rezoned so a park is possible, the highest bidder could probably create a private park assuming the new owner got all the necessary permits and liability insurance. Instead, my personal preference is that the City reinstate the location as a Department of Public Works and Street Services site. When catastrophe strikes us, I’d rather have some largish equipment here to assist with rescue.

CRIME IN THE OXFORD TRIANGLE – there have been attempts to re-start Neighborhood Watch. The residents in the 350+ single family homes have made it clear that they prefer high fences and hedges (so they and the bad guys cannot be seen), they definitely do not want to know who is living next door or across the street, much less exchange phone numbers and tell anyone when they will be away, and of all the residents there are not 12 (one per street) with enough time and interest to attend four (4, once per quarter!) meetings per year to learn what crimes are going on and to give their street residents advice and information from LAPD.

DENSITY INCREASE – The population is increasing and people need to live somewhere. Consider where you would like your children to live. Apartments in areas zoned for apartments are better than creating multiple units out of single family residences.

OXFORD BASIN RE-DO will not enhance flood protection. The footprint of the pond will not be enlarged.

SANTA MONICA AIRPORT – The airport was there when the homeowners bought. LAX is a major target. General aviation is used for much more than transporting executives and pleasure flights in small planes – transporting medical supplies, patients, emergency equipment, etc. The helicopter pads on those tall buildings? Consider how many are in liquifaction zones (hint- all of Marina Del Rey). The only reason Santa Monica wants to close the airport is because developers have been drooling over that land for years.

SYRINGES – Walgreen’s is a drug store. They sell syringes from behind the counter (I think, but am too lazy to verify). A lot of people besides heroin addicts need them.

USE OF ONSITE PARKING – you cannot require anyone who has onsite parking available to use it. I wish. But, if L.A. City built parking facilities in the coastal zone, restricted parking would be possible. Santa Monica, Manhattan, Hermosa, Redondo all have parking structures in the coastal zone. One idea – move the MTA bus yard (now in the tsunami zone) to LAX property and build parking on the MTA site.

VEHICLE FIRE GATE AT JEFFERSON APARTMENTS – If LAFD is informed, they should remove it and put their own in its place. If they do not, you can always add your own chain(s) and padlock(s). or just your padlock(s) to the chain.

You may want to put this Link in – corner Sunset and Ocean Park Walk – currently a parking lot.

Just wanted to inform you about an incident that occurred in front of our home on Oxford last night. Our floor mat was thrown into the center of the street. Our planter was dumped out in the front garden and thrown onto the sidewalk. A bunch of our plants and trees were rustled with. The incident occurred between 12:16 and 12:18 AM 6/28/2015.

The same thing happened about three weeks ago to our neighbors at 736 Oxford, and two houses south of them. Again, floor mats thrown into the street and plants cut/chopped – so it’s likely the same individual that is responsible for both incidents.

Let me know if I can provide any additional information.

Need volunteer to do graffiti removal in Oxford Triangle. Pete Griswold is doing it temporarily until someone volunteers.

LAPD Chaplain Steve Weller says he will have a Senior Lead Officer detail next Wednesday morning and “we will cover Oxford Triangle.” Thank you, Steve! Update has had articles regarding homeless in Triangle. Remember Chaplain Steve Weller was highlighted in Venice Update article in May.

“We average $250 for each person placed with an average of 5 homeless placed per week,” he said. We buy bus tickets home, food vouchers, detoxification entry fees, and 1st fees for entry into residential living. ” See article in Venice Update May 26 2015 regarding qualifications for getting help.

Chaplain Weller does not solicit funds. If anyone would like to donate, mail check to Chaplain Steve Weller, 1400 Riviera Ave., Venice 90291. All donations go directly to helping the homeless.
