Give them a graffiti park and they will destroy private property, murals, you name it. Perhaps, it is time to remove the graffiti park on Venice Beach. Last week it was the Vietnam POW memorial on Pacific.
Stewart Oscars, the Venice graffiti finder, has found more graffiti and stated that he feels the amount of damage done in Venice is increasing.
“I came across a New York Post article, August 6, 2016, titled, ‘How Bratton’s NYPD saved the subway system,'” he wrote. “The article is lengthy and covers more than tagging, however the positive actions used to lessen tagging damage on NY subways could be applied to Venice.” http://nypost.com/2016/08/06/how-brattons-nypd-saved-the-subway-system/
Stewart also asked the question: “Can’t something be done other than paint over it?” The answer is yes. One can paint the wall using anti-graffiti paint. One can put anti-graffiti film on windows. One would assume that there is a clear protective coat that could be painted over most murals too.
Stewart Oscars has become the ultimate graffiti sleuth for Venice. Am sure he submits a list of graffiti to the graffiti removal crew daily. Now he is getting into analyzing the graffiti. The Sheriff’s graffiti detective may be consulting Oscars soon.

“The first photo is the Venice Vietnam Memorial Wall, # 2 and 3 are the 1416 Abbot Kinney Mural which was destroyed 6 and 7 July,” he wrote. ” #2 is the first tagging and #3 covers #2 and was done hours later and is the final covering.
“There is surveillance video of the 1416 tagging some of which was shown on CH 2 in a report by Jeff Nguyen. When I watched that report, the letters that the guy on the left is painting sure looked like the letters on the left of the Memorial Wall; and the next letters just to the right on the Wall looked like the final tagging on the 1416 Mural. The photos illustrate the letters.
“Could the tagging on the two murals have been done by same people?”
Angel Castro, a 24-year old, male, Hispanic, was taken into custody on Wednesday afternoon, July 13, 2016. He was wanted by LA Sheriff’s Department Transit Policing Division detectives in connection with the defacement of a Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall in Venice, California just before Memorial Day this year.
Castro, who uses the moniker “LITER” (pronounced LIGHT-er) was one of the four monikers identified earlier this month by the lead detective on the case, Michael Thibodeaux. Detective Thibodeaux secured a warrant for Castro’s arrest. Castro was taken into custody without incident in the Exposition Park area of Los Angeles by members of the Sheriff’s Department’s Transit Policing Division Crime Impact Team.
During the initial interview with Detective Thibodeaux, Suspect Castro admitted to his role in the vandalism of the Veterans Memorial Wall. He is scheduled to be arraigned later this week and could face additional charges as the investigation is still ongoing. LASD Transit Policing Division detectives continue to seek additional information regarding additional suspects, with monikers “PHEB”, “NONER”, and “SNAKE”, that are connected with the tagging of the Veterans Memorial Wall.

Ouchboys did job of destroying another iconic mural in Venice, and according to Stewart Oscars, it was done 6 July. This one is at 1416 Abbot Kinney on side of Caudalia Boutique Spa. Mural had been there a decade.
The two “ouchboys” were caught on film and the 90-minute film is forthcoming. Photos of the two with cartoon caption were posted on the mural as a reminder. Taped to the middle of the mural are the following two 8-1/2 x 11 proofs of the culprits at work.
