Neighborhood Integrity Initiative Town Hall Addresses Some Venice Problems

Initiative
Marsha Hanscom, environmentalist, speaks to people gathered to hear about the Neighborhood Integrity Initiative at the Town Hall on Stoner. The initiative is on the March ballot. A few spoke of Venice and mentioned “re-gentrification” and the lack of integrity in the planning system. None spoke of the massive changes that will occur in Venice if the proposed Venice Median is rezoned from open space to R-3 and if the Thatcher Yard is rezoned from what it is to R1.5. For information on initiative go to https://veniceupdate.com/2016/11/19/13986/.

Fire trucks were called. Palm tree with electrical wires running through created a fire. Check your trees and the wires.

“Changing of the Lights” on Venice Sign and Ceremony is Tonight, 2 December, 6 to 9 pm

Sign

The Fifth Annual changing of the lights on the Venice Sign from white to red and green in celebration of the holidays is tonight, 2 December, from 6 to 9 pm at Windward and Pacific. Windward Avenue east of Pacific Avenue will be closed for the event. Who will be the special guest?

Venie the Venquin arrived earlier this week in Windward Circle for the event. This is the second time “it” has arrived signaling the upcoming “changing of the lights” ceremony for the Venice Sign. The event is sponsored by the Venice Chamber of Commerce.

Venquin Arrives for Sign Lighting Ceremonies–Is it Venie?

venquin

Is it Venie, the Venquin, who arrives mysteriously before the sign lighting ceremony at Windward and Pacific. No one knows its name or why it comes. But this is its second year. It arrived under suspicious circumstances last year. Is this an annual visit? It appears as a duck out of water but obviously is a sign lighting fan. No Venetian will knock a fan of the sign lighting.

Update received photos of Venie, one from Kristen Bogart, and two from anonymous. One shown is from anonymous. Rather a dignified monumental pose, one would assume.

Each year berms are constructed on the beach to protect from storm high tides. This one is at Venice Blvd.

Parking Lot Murals, Abbot Kinney

murals
Murals are on fencing in Abbot Kinney parking lot. Update comment is: What a nice touch for an ugly fence. As far as graffiti is concerned, these murals seem to fare better than murals exposed on Abbot Kinney
