Mayor Appoints Venetian Mike Newhouse to West Los Angeles Area Planning Commission

Mike Newhouse has been appointed to the West Los Angeles Area Planning Commission by Mayor Eric Garcetti to fill the position vacated by the resignation of Thomas M. Donovan. Newhouse will serve the term ending 30 June 2017, subject to confirmation of the City Council.

Newhouse is president emeritus of the Venice Neighborhood Council and chair of the Westside Regional Alliance of Councils (WRAC), a coalition of all 13 Los Angeles Neighborhood and Community Councils on the Westside of Los Angeles.

Newhouse is an attorney with Newhouse Seroussi. He has been voted a Super Lawyer “Rising Star” by his peers and Los Angeles Magazine for the past five years. He is a magna cum laude graduate of the University of Southern California (B.A. 1996) and the Northwestern School of Law of Lewis and Clark College (J.D. 2000).

Attorney for Fran Camaj’s Gjusta at 320 Sunset asked that the appeal hearing (regarding City’s approval of change of use from bakery/retail to restaurant/retail with full liquor license) be given a 90-day extension. West LA Planning Commission approved 60 days.

Appealing the decision are: Jim Murez and Ilana Marosi and others.

424 Grand Blvd Appeal to be Heard 18 Nov

West LA Planning Commission will hear 424 Grand Blvd appeal 18 November after 4:30 pm, 11214 Exposition Blvd., 90064.

The hearing involves a decision by the Director of Planning regarding a State Mello Act Determination that the proposed project, consisting of the construction of one new single-family dwelling on a vacant residential lot, a Small New Housing Development, located at 424 Grand Boulevard complies with the provisions of California Government Code Sections 65590 and 655590.1 (commonly called the Mello Act) and the City of Los Angeles Interim Administrative Procedures for Complying with the Mello Act.

The hearing involves an appeal of the Zoning Administrator’s decision to approve a Coastal Development Permit authorizing a change of use of a tenant space from a 4,116 net square-foot bakery with 559 net square feet of retail floor area to a 4,675 square-foot sit-down restaurant with a maximum Service Floor Area of 717 square feet and 559 square feet of retail space located in the single permit jurisdiction area of the Coastal Zone; a Conditional Use authorizing the sale and dispensing of a full line of alcoholic beverages for onsite consumption in a proposed restaurant in the M1-1-O Zone, and; to allow the change of use from bakery and retail use to a sit-down restaurant and retail use with an approved Service Floor Area not to exceed 717 square feet (contained within the restaurant’s interior and the new outdoor dining area).

Planning Commission to Hear Simmzy Appeal

West LA Planning Commission will hear an appeal for 37 Washington Blvd 17 June after 4:30 pm at West LA Municipal Building 11214 West Exposition Blvd, LA 90064.

Appellants are Myron Lieberman, Arlene Leiberman, David Feige, Dorothy Mountain, Dan Mountain, Robin Rudisill.

The hearing involves an appeal of the Director’s Determination, pursuant to Municipal Code Section 12.26.K, to deny an appeal claiming that the Department of Building and Safety erred or abused its discretion in issuing Permit No. 13016-10000-10959 for a tenant improvement at an existing restaurant and a cooler addition at the rear of the building within the loading area without considering that a change of use had occurred and without any regards to the elimination of required parking.
