Fireworks will begin at 9 pm on the Fourth of July and will be off the jetty.
The 54th annual Marina Boat Parade will be 10 December from 6 to 8 pm. Preceding the boat parade, Beaches and Harbors will host “Snow Wonder” for children from noon to 6 pm at Burton Chace Park, 13650 Mindanao Way.
Real snow will be available for sledding, there will be face painting, arts & crafts, food trucks, and a live DJ. There will be a five-minute fireworks show kicking off the boat parade.
New Year’s Eve the Beaches and Harbors will host the New Year Eve fireworks off the jetty. In addition, Burton Chace Park will have the large TV screen up so viewers can watch the countdown and celebrations starting with New York at 7 pm.
Marina was filled, and of course, Venice Beach was packed.
The small strip of land, called the jetty, across from fireworks, between Pacific and Via Marina was one cabana after another by noon.

… and the rockets came bursting in air. Venice was a war zone this Fourth and all suffered.
These blasts start minimally a week before and usually continue for sometime after the Fourth. This year it was just not sleepable two days before the Fourth.
The Fourth itself was terrible. Could not go to county display because I had a dog shaking and panting. Had a raccoon who wanted to come in via my slider. He didn’t like it either. The feral cat I feed looked at me for a reason for the booming night. No whys in my vocabulary, kitty.
First of all, it is against the City law to sell fireworks. It is against the City law to ignite fire works with few exceptions, such as sparklers. They are dangerous!!!! How many times do people have to be told?
It was discussed among some who had the same thoughts regarding the fireworks and what could be done for next year. Plan was suggested to provide fireworks location this year for next year. Create a map of Venice using a grid overlay to show where the fireworks occurred this year. Have an address, if possible, but at least a general area. Perhaps, it could be for individual areas or for all of Venice. Then meet with the LAPD and identify the locations for next year using the overlay grid.
Or if the LAPD is too busy, have block captains monitor the areas. Apartment complexes should notify the tenants that fireworks are illegal and have a resident manager on site.
Please feel free to offer suggestions and see if something can be done prior to the next Fourth. What do you think of having a grid showing where the rockets were this year? Can you identify the location of blasts in your area? … Little input here would help for next year.
Yes, there will be real snow in Burton Chase Park, 12 December from 1 to 5 pm. Children can enjoy real snow, a synthetic ice rink, sledding, arts & crafts, face painting, and snacks. Burton Chace Park is at 13650 Mindanao Way, 90292.
Following that will be a fireworks show at 5:55 pm.
Then the Big Finale will be the Marina del Rey 53rd Annual Boat Parade from 6 to 8 pm.
It was Khloe Kardashian throwing a 26th birthday party for her boyfriend James Hardin of the Houston Rockets that lit up the sky early Wednesday morning and awakened the sleeping and the dogs with fireworks that lasted eight minutes.
Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department reported that the fireworks near the breakwater was the result of a private party. Fireworks started at midnight Tuesday and went about eight minutes into Wednesday. Sheriffs’ Department at Marina del Rey received about 40 calls.
The event was planned by a private party and included launching fireworks from a vessel “Off Shore” about 100 feet west of the breakwater off of Marina del Rey. The event planners inquired with the U.S. Coast Guard, prior to the event and went through the appropriate U.S. Coast Guard review process. The Los Angeles County Fire Department and Harbor Patrol of the Marina del Rey Sheriff’s Station of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department (LASD) were notified.
The LASD Marina del Rey Sheriff’s Station and Los Angeles County Beaches and Harbors would be the agencies responsible if there was a request for a fireworks event inside the lines of demarcation or inside the Marina del Rey breakwater. The LASD does not have legal standing to approve or deny a fireworks applications or permits outside the breakwater. The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department has jurisdiction to enforce local and state laws in the Los Angeles County Maritime Region, this does not include jurisdiction over the issuance of permits for fireworks events outside of the breakwater.
No sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to the boat or on land as a result of the fireworks event, nor did any member of the public file a criminal complaint about the noise.
There are no local ordinances which specifically regulate the use of legal fireworks in waterways outside of the lines or demarcation/offshore. However, loud disturbances are addressed in section 415 of the California Penal Code (PC). In order to address this under 415 PC, it would require at least one victim and proof of malicious intent. The Marina del Rey Sheriff’s Station is conducting an inquiry to ascertain if any laws or ordinances were violated. If you believe you were a victim of a crime as a result of this event and want to file a criminal complaint call Marina del Rey Sheriff’s Station at (310) 482-6000.
The good news is that the young Heron are safe, as of today, thanks to an unbelievable effort of Lina Shanklin and her group of 14, who stood vigil with a net under trees filled with young Heron at Mariners Village, as the MDR Fireworks fired Saturday night.
The Mom and Dad Herons get frightened by the noise and fly away never to return. That leaves babies too young to fly, six stories up in nests, frightened by the noise and later hungry, looking for food.
Shanklin’s plea for help was published in the VeniceUpdate.com before the Fourth of July at https://veniceupdate.com/2015/07/01/help-save-the-herons-at-mariners-village-on-the-fourth-during-fireworks/ .
Lina Shanklin of Mariners Village has put out a call for help to save the Herons during the Fourth of July fireworks in Marina del Rey. She needs people and supplies.
“On July 4th from 8:30 to 9:30 pm Mariners Village baby Herons need 20 minutes of our time so they don’t fall six stories to the ground and to certain death or maiming,” she wrote. “Your hands along with eight others can make a difference.”
A little history …
During April’s MDR Birthday fireworks, allL the adult Herons nesting in the trees inside Mariners Village flew up in a panic with each display and loud noise, leaving nests behind.
The MDR 4th of July Fireworks this Saturday night is even nearer.
It’s more than likely our last 2 Heron babies who can perch on the edge of their nest will jump. Without the ability to glide or fly yet, they will plummet to the ground 6 stories below, maimed or dying.
Could you celebrate part of your Saturday 4th of July evening by foregoing the Fireworks display and instead….spend one hour doing something great?!
…be willing to be a part of an all-volunteer Heron rescue team holding an edge of a net or tarp to catch and save a falling baby Heron? No experience necessary! Just your hands and your care and showing up.

Marina del Rey rocked last night at the Three Dog Night concert in Burton Chase Park as part of the Marina’s 50th anniversary celebration … but first they had cake. All was followed by a sunset over the Marina and fireworks.
Celebration continues through the weekend. Go to http://file.lacounty.gov/dbh/docs/cms1_226435.pdf for remaining activities.
Three Dog Night had them standing and rocking throughout the concert.
And They Rocked!
