Frankel Says there are two different ways to deal with Storm Water:

1. Natural: Unpave, restore rivers and creeks, create new parks and open space for people and wildlife.

2. Spend twice as much: Dig up every street, park and school playground, disrupt traffic

Frankel says there is still time to weigh in with the Los Angeles Water Board on LA’s largest (20 billion) Public Work’s Project: Storm Water Cleanup

Sierra Club to meet 20 October

Sierra Club Airport Marina group will meet Tuesday, 20 October, 7 pm at Burton Chase Park, 13650 Mindanao Way, 90292.

Next meet will be 10 November same time and place. November meet will be “Why the proposed Boat Central Project on Fi]i Way may negatively affect small boaters, the wildlife in Ballona Wetlands and much more.” Ramp is proposed to project 90 feet into the channel.

Walter Lamb to Speak at Sierra Club Meet

Walter Lamb, President of Ballona Wetlands Land Trust and long-time activist, will speak about Land Trust Point of View on the restoration Tuesday, September 8 at 7 pm in Burton Chase Park meet room, 13650 Mindanao Way, Marina Del Rey, CA 90292. This is a Sierra Club, Airport Marina Group, sponsored program.

There are many points of view on how the Ballona Wetlands Restoration should be done,” wrote Jeanette Vosburg, program chair for Airport Marina Group. “No bulldozing. Bulldozing. Forty foot berms. No berms. And much more.”

Four places locally are threatened with massive development:

Pier 44 – 83,778 feet or 5.5 times bigger than existing buildings.
Marina Marsh at Tahiti Way and Via Marina – 288 room hotel.
Fishermen’s Village at Fiji Way – high density, complete overhaul.
Mariners Village – end of Via Marina – commercial development, heron rookery and old growth trees under threat.

Sierra Club to Meet 19 May

Sierra Club Airport Marina Group will meet Tuesday, 19 May, 7 pm at Burton Chace Park meeting room, 13650 Mindanao Way, Marina del Rey.

Speakers will be Jon Nahhas, Nancy Marino, Dan Gottlieb, Douglas Fay, and Armaiti May. Each speaker will offer a four-minute perspective on challenges and opportunities regarding such projects as Ballona Wetlands, Oxford Lagoon, old growth trees, small craft harbor changes, dock space, fees, traffic, 16-story project.

KPFK did a 13-minute interview with Lila Garrett and Patricia McPherson. Club members added photos and posters.
