Michael Lipson brought this great article find to Update’s attention. Back in the days, Venice Boardwalk hosted poetry and espresso as the “in” thing to do. Venice West Cafe on Dudley and the Gas House on the boardwalk were the places during the late 50’s and early 60’s when Venice was the Los Angeles hub for the Beatniks.
