And, My Goodness, Let’s Look at 3rd Ave Again

3rd,pile

8:20 am FridayThis pile is the extent of the trash from both sides of the street.  Graffiti on sidewalk is another story.  Also note how clean it is behind the fenced area on left. That was recently cleaned.   It was littered with paper debris.

This is truly the model of what can be done with streets that display blight as badly as 3rd Avenue has in the past.  Third was the model for the Blight Award not too long ago.  Now this avenue has just been getting better each week.  This week it was checked every day and these photos were taken Friday.

Leon has been piling up trash and sweeping.  Once the homeless see one of their own taking an interest, it becomes infectious with some of the regulars and they too are inclined to keep it clean.  Those who are not regulars drive Leon crazy.

Mark Ryavec, president of Venice Stakeholders, has used local donations to arrange for pick up of the trash and sweeping of the street.

After Leon, the Venice Stakeholders’ cleanup “wagon” comes along and picks up the pile/s of trash and makes sure the sidewalks are swept clean.

Whatever the system is– if it is the combination of Leon and the VSA cleanup wagon–it is working.  It is a model for all to see what can be done.  Congrats to all!  One dirty street in Venice is a dirty street in our neighborhood.

Maybe 3rd Avenue will become a tourist attraction.
