The Culver City 99-Cent store at 12741 Washington should have a conditional use permit (CUP) hearing regarding the stripping of two LA City lots used by store and separated from store by a 15-foot alley.
The two adjacent Los Angeles parking lots zoned R-3 and used as parking, have been a contention with Meier and Zanja Street residents for years.
“Now the residents will have an opportunity to condition the lots,” wrote architect Michael King.
An anonymous client of and with Michael King and attorney John Henning, filed an appeal to a parking lot re-stripping permit. They won the appeal.
“The permit, had it not been appealed, would have allowed the Culver City 99 cent store on Washington to retain its unconditioned, illegal use parking lot on City of Los Angeles land without a conditional use permit (CUP) hearing,” wrote Michael King.
“The 99 cent owners,” he wrote, “should now file for a CUP which will require a public hearing where the community can condition the property to reduce its impact on the Mar Vista Meier-Zanja Street neighborhood!
“As all our communities become denser, existing illegal uses (especially ugly parking lots on residential land) will come under scrutiny!”
