Is your home ready to get burglarized?

a. homeburglaries

Look at these facts and ask yourself, how susceptible are you, is your home to being burglarized.  Under Comments, two residents questioned people being in the neighborhood.  If you question someone regarding their activity, the answer is to call the non-emergency number, which is 877-ASK-LAPD.  If crime is in progress, call 911.

Unoccupied.  Burglars search for homes that appear unoccupied.  A car in the driveway, a motion-sensitive exterior lights, interior lights, radios and TVs on timers all give the impression that someone is in the home.  Stop newspaper and mail delivery and have neighbors watch your home.

Time. Burglars want to spend no more than 60 seconds breaking into a home.  Measures that raise that time are deadbolt locks, bars on windows, and pins in sash windows.

Don’t help them.  Remove shrubs and trees around home.  Don’t give them a place to hide.  Secure tool sheds and ladders.  Some thieves will steal tools from around your property and use them to break windows and doors.
