The metal container (8×40 feet) at the paddle courts on Ocean front Walk now has 51 bins filled with 100 people on waiting list.
Steve Clare, head of Venice Community Housing Corporation, reported at the Venice Neighborhood Council that they are looking for a permanent place for storage. Right now they use volunteers, seven days a week for one hour each day.
Deborah Lashever mentioned that the shelter had extended itself from July to September, one month at a time. Normally, the storage facility opening coincides with the shelter, which opens in November and closes in March.
Lashever says they need the storage because it frees people to go get a shower, go look for work. It also keeps “stuff” off the beach.
