I just wanted to touch base and say hello.
Since September, Wendy and I have been in Maine, closer to our parents while we delivered our baby girl into our world.
Aliyah Bliss Kaufman is happy and healthy, and we could not be more grateful for her awesomeness.
While we have been away, I have been particularly enjoying Updates, which keep me posted on all things Venice from afar.
I’m looking forward to my return trip in November, and bringing the ladies with me in January.
Hope to see you soon!

People do all of those things with their dogs on leashes too. What an absolute self-righteous BITCH! Wow. I cannot believe her diatribe. It is absolutely mind-boggling. I can’t even read it all cuz it is so infuriatingly selfish and clueless and soooooo misses the point! It’s the friggin LAW. Law. Law. Law. And considerate. What a complete ignorant unempathetic BITCH. Ok reta. Now these comments are for you. Just you but BOY would I like to see her dog chase a squirrel into the street and get the scare of her life with the dog narrowly missing a car. Knock some sense into her head. You can’t even be nice and diplomatic without people slamming you. She is apparently not one of the courteous neighbors she claims to know and has nothing but negativity to slam others. Likely no one will come to my defense. But I sure hope someone does and blasts her at the same time.

You wrote a lot of words about how you felt re walking your dog off-leash. You, of course, know yourself and you know your dog.

May I respectfully submit that nowhere did I read that you know and understand how the strangers feel that you encounter on your walks with your dog off-leash.

We, the strangers, do not know you or your dog. We have no way of judging whether you are a responsible dog owner and the dog off leash is well trained and well behaved. You know that; we don’t.

Therefore, upon seeing a dog off leash, it is (a) frightening to us because we don’t have the advantage of knowing you or your dog and some of us have heart conditions and don’t need to unnecessarily be frightened; (b) you have no way of knowing who is afraid because of a prior bad experience or for any reason does not want their path of travel impeded by a dog, friendly or otherwise.

Some laws, I agree, are silly or plain stupid, and some aren’t generally enforced. This law is a GOOD law and for GOOD reason. Please leash your dog. Thank you for understanding the other person’s reasons.

Dogs, like other pets generally are wonderful!!
People are also generally good……but not always…..
A dog is a dog is a dog….even as a pet is an animal.
DNA strongly suggests a margin for unpredictable danger.

I remember those annual cleanups! Not being very strong, I was always exhausted after about 2 hours.
The Venice Neighborhood Council has been helping neighborhoods organize cleanups. If there is enough interest, the Oxford Triangle could certainly hold one. II would be great if the City would donate trash pickup. In the previous Oxford Triangle cleanups, the work included pruning overgrowth into the alleys and the amount of trash was measured in tons. If I recall correctly, our record was 9 tons.

The lighting isn’t great but it looks like a Willet (maybe juvenile). At this time of year there’ll be hundreds along the creek with the other migrants from northern climes. Some stay at Ballona all winter, others continue to Mexico, Brazil and Peru. Fairly nondescript greyish-brown but in flight it shows a striking black and white wing pattern.

Where do I vote? Was scheduled to vote at Extra Storage.

Santa Monica Airport (despite all the assertions of your contributor Carol S) is flying more and more planes, small and jets over Venice. They ARE NOT flying over Penmar Park but south of there and an increasingly frequent rate. I have pictures of them flying over my house to prove it because I’m south of Penmar.
Probably a set-up for the upcoming election…since Santa Monica residents will vote to keep the airport as noise isn’t the problem it once was (due to the flights over Venice) and Venice residents can’t vote because we have no interest in Santa Monica Airport. Hasn’t anyone else noticed this??? Or are we all just too worn down to complain since nothing is done about it anyway?
