“Four cars parked on North Venice Blvd between Grand Blvd and Abbot Kinney Blvd were vandalized by someone taking a large object and smashing all windowshields on driver’s side,” reported Pamela Bower.
“None were broken into and burglarized. They just made a 15-inch round crack/indention in each. Broad daylight.”
Will Sims, owner of the Mercedes pictured, said they had been waiting for police for two hours. Two of the four cars had been towed. Only the two pictured remained. “We just got thru to the police and they said they could not make it and that I should bring it to police station to make a complaint.”
“Whoever did it targeted new, nice expensive cars so it was obviously a hate crime/act of anger” wrote Mark Ryavec. “They skipped other older cars parked along the same street.”
This was a regular happening from time to time when there was any contention about the “rich” forcing the “poor” out of Venice – Happened many times in the past – class war sort of thinking – also expect an uptick in graffiti. Don’t know if this is a spontaneous reaction to “the word on the street” or something planned by the people who want to send the Yuppies, Techies, rich f**ks, developers (MY GOD, THEY’VE ADDED A ROOM!) and haters (or whatever the term d’jour is) packing off to OC and Manhattan Beach. My back car window was smashed a few weeks ago on Electric Ave. on a Sunday night. They threw a large rock though it. It was clear someone wasn’t trying to steal something – there was nothing on the car seat, and the hole wasn’t widened enough for anyone to put an arm inside – pure vandalism. Anyone else have their window smashed at that location? Is it connected to these later crimes?
Kelly, last weekend over 20 cars from Electric to 5th Ave and East on Westminster were hit similarly: large stones thrown through windows with great force and swastikas carved into the paint on some. I followed the perpetrator and flagged down an LAPD unit, he was arrested. I directly observed the subject commit the acts: he is a black male, about 25, long hair, over 6′ and 200 lbs.
The police told me they’ve had him in custody before for the same crimes and the courts always give him a pat on the hand before releasing this monster back to the public. I will be at the next court date.
