Donated Keepsake Books by Mistake; Wants Items Back

Martha Groves, writer for the LA Times, inadvertently gave away “keepsake” books to Nowita Free Library. She would like to have them returned and would provide paperback copies of the French classics.

“In my zeal to declutter my garage, I inadvertently gave a box of keepsake books to the owner of a Little Free Library on Nowita” she wrote. “I’m bereft.

“They include my late father’s French textbooks from prep school, with his name—Frank Groves—inscribed and his markings. Among them also are several foreign-language dictionaries and some of my own French literature texts from college, including Albert Camus’ “La Peste” and “L’Etranger.” According to the owner of the Little Free Library, the French volumes were snapped up in one fell swoop. I would give my eyeteeth to get these back, especially the books that belonged to my father.

“If you were the recipient, I would be delighted to provide you paperback copies of some of these French classics.

“Merci beaucoup!

Hopefully,
Martha”
