LAPD Chaplain, Pastor Steve Weller, the man who “Walks the Walk” (see Update story Blah) and his wife Regina, who has the same credentials as Steve, have been helping the homeless get to places specific to their needs for years. Steve is pastor of the Four Square Church on Rialto.

Chaplain and Pastor Regina Weller has written stories of many of the encounters she and her husband have had over the years with people needing help. She has agreed to allow the Update to print them. One will be printed each week, starting next week.

Last week it was reported to Update that a woman looked “out of place” sleeping on Carter. Information was forwarded to Chaplain Steve. Chaplain Steve is LAPD Chaplain Steve and works with the police homeless task force on Wednesdays. He said he would look into it.

Chaplain Steve reported:

Spoke with her this AM. Know her very well as Regina (fictitious name). Placed her in Precious Life House pregnant women’s home in Orange County to deliver her baby three months ago. Spoke with her Dad moments ago. He lives out of town and is caring for the newborn baby girl. Mom is working but is use to street life and is waiting release of the father from jail. Wants to save money for new apartment. We will be following up and keep you informed. Thanks for the info.

The couple appears to work magic in placing people where they can get temporary help, off the street, and until they can move on with their lives.

“We average $250 for each person placed with an average of 5 homeless placed per week,” he said. We buy bus tickets home, food vouchers, detoxification entry fees, and 1st fees for entry into residential living. See “Walks the Walk” article for who qualifies for help.

They have been using their own pension money until Venice Stakeholders Association gave them $5000. Donations have trickled in since.
