Murez Does Kinney-Tabor Home

Robin Murez has yet another creation on Abbot Kinney. She just drops these tidbits here and there on Abbot Kinney like angels drop fairy dust. They all add to the mystique and uniqueness of this namesake street. What makes them all so special is that they provide just a hint of the history of this city by the sea … just enough to make one want more.

The one most recent at 1209 Abbot Kinney, is the story of the Kinney-Tabor home. Abbot Kinney lived on the Grand Canal. He bequeathed his house to his chauffeur and long-time friend Tabor, who happened to be black. Blacks at the time were not allowed to live in the canals. So Irving Tabor being the resourceful man that he was, cut the house into threes and moved it by mules to the Oakwood location.

Walk Abbot Kinney, both sides, and see her creations here and there. Remember, they blend in with the street scene.
