These illustrations put Councilman Mike Bonin’s “End Homelessness in Venice” plan in perspective and saves the thousand words.

Venetians have heard and read about the Venice “To End Homelessness” dialog for months now and have gotten a little weary, bleary eyed, and honestly overwhelmed. Now here is an illustration that makes the volume of explanatory rhetoric unnecessary.

You have to look at the brighter side. You’ll have new neighbors. Actual real live people, not robots or humans implanted with microchips.

  2. SupportHomelessBondForHousing

This goes deeper than gentrification. This is a response to the disgust over globalization. Only the uber rich are benefiting and keeping it all for themselves. It’s all connected. This is why we fight back to save Venice. This is the stomping ground for saving the world.

And by hiccups I don’t mean the homeless or natives. I’m not pointing the finger at anyone of you. You know who you are, don’t hide.

  4. SupportHomelessBondForHousing

We are fixing up the hiccups that came to Venice to screw things up for everyone. That’s all were doing.

Just as the world is not embracing globalization we are also not embracing gentrification. The two have much in common with each other. Look at what is happening with the USA right now, and around the world. The message is clear. We are organizing for change that includes everyone this time. Gentrification and globalization don’t offer that to everyone. This plan for homeless housing and more low income housing is coming soon to Venice. Thanks for the informative article. Thanks for saving Venice.

Whoever made this masterpiece up there you sure are doing a great job laying out the groundwork for homeless housing. Very informative and I’m sure homeless people and people on the verge of becoming homeless, including low income people are thankful we have someone like you that literally “spills the beans” and lets the community in on the latest updates on what’s to come for Venice. The city has been on the news for a while now letting everyone know what has been going on too. This isn’t fresh news but at least it’s updated and informative. Los Angeles has been in the works of realizing that Venice does need homeless housing, and more low income housing. I thank you for the information you’ve provided. It just goes to show you don’t hide anything either.

Please post everywhere including Bonin’s FB page! I think it’s ludicrous that homeless just assume it’s the rich folks against this plan. Well heads up its working class families who’s kids go to Westminister Elementary School that’s against these plans! We have the highest number of mentally ill homeless individuals, I’m glad we are prioritizing there safety over kids safety! This will never happen across a school for kids of a different color and socio-economic background like in Mar Vista or Palisades

Who are you people ? I’ve been homeless here in Venice now for 7 years and have never encountered any of you . All the people I meet here in Venice are cool with homeless people. You must be the ones who hide in your condos all day and never come out to have a good time and enjoy the beach and never ending parade of beautiful women.

The homeless issue mirrors the RV issue from several years back. There were always RV dwellers in Venice and Venetians generally tolerated them. They often moved around and there was enough space that it never felt oppressive or clustered. Then, rather suddenly over the course of a year, the population of RVs exploded. We went from like 100 to 250+. People have certain tolerance thresholds. At 100 RVs, most Venetians weren’t bothered enough to raise a ruckus. At 250, that changed and enforcement and no parking signs went up. The same types of thresholds are now being crossed with the homeless population. Most Venetians accept that we area community where transients are more welcomed than in most communities and it’s part of life, but the population, and the encampments in particular have exploded. It seems the newcomers don’t care about cleaning up after themselves or respecting their neighbors at all. No effort what-so-ever. Long-time homeless who have had an understanding with residents have been overwhelmed themselves and the “social contract” has been broken. Hence people are getting angry and pushing back.

      • Alvin

You’re right Nick. It does mirror the RV issue in that Mark Ryavec cost the taxpayers thousands of dollars and the loss of 85.02 when he and his fellow haters put pressure on the City to send in an LAPD task force that violated the Civil Rights of a whole lot of people as a result of L.A. losing a lawsuit filed against them. And if the City is dumb enough to take the advice of the VNC Homeless Committee and start enforcing the law against sleeping on the sidewalk it will just result in another lawsuit that they will lose. And once again Mark Ryavec will have cost the tax payers thousands and thousands of dollars that could have actually been spent helping homeless people, instead of unconstitutionally criminalizing them.

        • Richard Feibusch

No Alvin – Everything Mark Ryavec has done over time slowed down and held off this expansion of adversity that borders on Eastern Block communist property confiscation. Historic background: This sort of thing was going to be shoved up Venice’s ass 16 years ago when Ruthless Ruth Galanter was banished to the Valley and we got, by default, a much more reasonable, Cindy Misakowski as a Councilmember, who had no interest in this sort of BS. Bill Rosendahl, though down with the idea, was so interested in being well liked, that he was more into keeping peace and balance with the residents concerns. Bonin, on the other hand, apparently sees things like his mentor, Galanter, and feels that these programs are so necessary, that screwing over Venice residents will be better politically than placing it all over the district, plus it will be easier to keep a handle on in a concentrated area… Go figure..??

          • Bruce

Good point, Richard. Only 20% of CD11 voters live in Venice. Bonin can concentrate all of the facilities here in Venice, and not face any opposition from the majority of his constituents in the rest of the district.

If Venice was a city, we would have our own mayor and governing body elected by Venetians, for Venetians apart from the dysfunctional and broken LA city government. #Vexit

    • SupportHomelessBondForHousing

It’s the Los Angeles city government that’s making this housing for the homeless and low income happen in Venice. That gives you a clue as to how they feel about your so called Vexit. I love that rendition up there. That’s exactly what’s going to happen minus the whole dormitory. We are going to have homeless and low income housing in Venice. We need more of both at this point. Oh, so you thought you could just come live in Venice and kick us all out. You were totally mistaken. Welcome us home during the ribbon cutting ceremonies. We can start teaching you how to smile again.

  10. SupportHomelessBondForHousing

This is why I love this site. This is exactly what Venice needs. We need more housing for the homeless and low income. What a neat rendition of what could be a place where low income and homeless can intermingle with “high income” earners in paradise. Is this the place we go to when we die to apologize to one another for all the bad things we’ve done. This can be the place we all go to while we are alive to live in peace in this paradise called: Venice California. Peace be with you neighbor. And see you on the boardwalk.

    As for other nearby areas,
    How about the Pacific Palisades…?

And this is what Bonin has planned for the Palisades working with Rick Caruso… See any inclusionary low income or homeless housing in this video??? They already have a Business Improvement District (BID) in place to augment these plans – Like the one that was approved for OFW in Venice, but is being reconsidered because of protests from some locals and the social service Mafia – Check out this video and tell us where the diversity and the adversity is there in the Palisades… Another Galanter-like dumping on Venice, because residents are so hip that they actually want to host this nonsense… Suck it up or organize for a change in direction…

    • Bruce

My sister-in-law lives in the Palisades. They have no homeless services there, but recently raised $500k in private donations to send the homeless to treatment centers in other parts of the city, including Venice. Caruso’s development is the talk of the town, but does not include any affordable housing component.

      • SupportHomelessBondForHousing

This is exactly why we need homeless housing and also more low income housing in Venice. You have a good point about the need for communities to finally start their own developments for homeless housing and also support more low income housing too. Well, it looks like you lost this fight. You tried your best but looks like we are finally going to save Venice. Next stop ending the BID, and putting and end to this whole Vexit thing. After that anything is possible. You don’t get what’s really going on do you. Nobody wants to have a microchip in their head. We are fighting a war on globalization in Venice. What happens in Venice California doesn’t stay here. This is the new United Nations as I know it. This isn’t Googles Earth. This is Venice Beach, not silicon beach. Lets start ending the war on terrorrozing the non-uber rich. I never said Lumberjacks go home, and I’m not saying all white people are boring. And I’m not racist. VexNick
