Picture shows the people at the Land Use and Planning Committee meeting regarding the Abrams Hotel. Dan Abrams agreed to remove the fourth floor before the meeting. Removal of the fourth floor would require a significant redesign before returning to LUPC. Perhaps, it would not be financially feasible for developer without the fourth floor. People were allowed to speak about the hotel.
Former chair of Land Use and Planning Challis Macpherson met two Abrams hotel investors who were at the Abbot Kinney Festival in a booth to explain this project to the public. Challis explained to them in no uncertain terms that a fourth story would not fly, that a building in excess of 25-30 feet (flat roof, pitched) would not fly. She told them very explicitly that if they didn’t follow the Venice Coastal Specific Plan, they were wasting their time. They said that they just may have to build somewhere else. They weren’t sure it would be financially feasible.
